Just returned from a trip to
Mystery Bay for the school holiday's. Good weather, reasonable fishing, relaxing by the fire, etc.
As is the usual pratice with
camping my son bought his pushbike with him. First night there, some body decided that they deserved to own it in preference to my son. Other things from other campers were also acquired.
We went into the local cop
shop at the earliest opputunity to report the theft, then returned to
camp. Not much else we could do.
Early the following morning, the police officer we reported to, showed up at
camp on her way to work, with a spare bike she had from home, for my son to use while we were there.......Did not know us from Adam. Drop it off at the station when we leave.
We dropped it off when we left. We bought a box of chocolates and a thank you card, which my son was hoping to give to her, on return of the bike. Unfortunitly she was off duty for a few days. On leaving the station, the last thing my son said to the officers on duty, was that the chocolates were not for them, and they were to be locked away until the other was back at work. (different words but close enough). I could hear the officers laughing as we went back to the car...

Just a thought, check your home (contents) insurance policy you may be able to claim depending on the cover you have.....my son had his bike taken/stolen a $1200 GT BMX a few years ago was only a few weeks old.....bike replaced only cost the excess $50

It's amazing how little acts of unsolicited kindness just brighten your day....but who said all cops were bad in the first place? Sorry, I don't agree with that part. The job would send a few of them off the reservation but generally I've found them to be pretty good under trying circumstances. Mike

I agree that cops are generally not that bad, unless you deserve it. Just an attention getting headline.

You may find one ""smart #$%^" cop here and there, but no cop is a bad cop. just imagine what living in the community would be like if there were NO cops at all??
The lowlifes would have free reign constantly.

Not sure I agree with you Uncle
"just imagine what living in the community would be like if there were NO cops at all??

I think many lowlifes would be thinking twice about the repurcusions from victims if there were no authorities to determine what the repurcusions of crime were to be. Imagine ; steal my bike= lose your hand??? many would be criminals would not be if real punishment had to be considered by them.
SDG- wonderful actions on the officers behalf, sorry to hear the actions preceeding this wonderful act of kindness though. Hope she gets a result for you (and her community too).
Cheers, Trevor.

Your probably right , to a certain extent there Trev. but unfortunately , we have a lot of elderly folk arouind our city, some of them could "look after themselves""... but there are many who would not dare even venture outside if they heard a noise.

What do you mean by "not all cops are bad'? If I was a police officer I'd be seriously offended by thay comment.
The only time I imagine they are 'bad' is when they are doing their job and booking someone for having done the wrong thing - and then they are only 'bad' in the eyes of the bookee!
Surely you could have selected a better heading given the content of the post.

Hi Moose.
Not looking to inflame the situation but I spent 6 months
clearing my name after two cops tried to frame me for something.
That statement does not infer all cops are bad.

Hi moose,
I think people should take the blinkers of when talking about the police, of course we need them and there are some wonderfull people in the police force, dedicated and committed, with compassion and understanding of the crazy things humans do, its a very demanding profession and I take my hat off to them.
The other side of the coin is just the opposite, by the very nature of what it is the police force also attracts another type who have a different set of morals. I think nearly every police organisation in each state has had some form of investigation into them and the corruption and general lack of morals was consistantly found to be prevalent in all.
I have had first hand experience with the negative side of police and it can be very brutal, I have also found a lot of
well mannered and considerate individuals carrying out their job in a professional manner.
All the best Warren.

SGD thats a such a great story, what a lovely person to be so kind and thoughtful. and I think your son is on the money telling the cops to lock the chocolates away and not eat them. I think the one who gave you the bike will get the card, but has only the slimmest chance of recieving the choccies intact.

Have to agree, here in Tasmania the cops are very good.
I am a driving instructor and a few months ago I was teaching a
young lady to drive.
We were stopped at the traffic lights when a police car pulled up alongside, the girl looked over at the police officer and said to me, "I wonder if he will get upset if I drag him off?"
I replied, "Why don't we ask him?" wound the window down and repeated the girls question.
He laughed and when the lights changed to green, he took off that slow that we had to drag him off.
I can still see him laughing in the rear vision mirror, and he made our day too.

Mystery Bay, on the NSW south coast, seems to suffer frm that problem. I was
camping there with friends about 18 months ago and our
campsite was 'raided' and boat batteries, an esky and a bit of fishing gear was pinched out of the my mate's boat.
We reported it to police. They had a good idea who did it, but the proof in finding the stuff seemed to elude them.
One friend had two dogs that were upset during the night, but apart from keeping them quiet, did nothing to find the cause of their concern, and as a result we were unable to catch the culprits.
