Hi,
I am having a bit of trouble with
water getting in to the front storage compartment.
I have found that
water could get in by a simple hosing of the van which is not unlike driving in to heavy rain.
I have put silicon around every where and that has helped.
What I find now is that
water can get in through the handle and even the key hole.
One option is to cover the handle with something like a rubber grip but where would you get one of those.
Any ideas?
Richard

Welcome to the world of caravans. When I purchased a new van last year I was told that is why they build new vans with drain holes in the front boot.

Allan,
I had heard that as
well but
mine does not have a drain in the front and is supposed to be dry.

Hello Richard, the normally installed CAMEC front boot doors are not waterproof, they tell you that, there was a piece of paper with our new van saying not to put stuff in there that could be damaged by
water.
Not
water-proof???? Why not???
As Allan says, welcome to the world of caravans, the drain in our front boot is only there because it houses the battery, mandatory requirement.

Richard, if it's a Camec door it's rubbish, unfortunately.
I had the same trouble on my previous van, a Trakmaster (which was an extreme disappointment itself).
I got some rubber extrusion from Clark Rubber. I'm not on the PC that has my photos on it atm, I'll post some when I can.
The rubber had the same profile as an aircraft wing and I was able to push it on all the way around the door. This left just the very top left and right corners either end of the hinge and I was able to fix that with a bit of flat rubber and some silicon.
I'll put a picture up later today.

At this point I don't think the
water is coming in under the edge and already has some sponge under the door edges. Could be wrong but what you have done looks like a good option.
I have found that
water gets in through the key hole (by gently spraying
water at iit) and from the join of the handle to the base.
I found if I put a bag over the handle and hosed it down or after a heavy rain no
water got through.
What I would like to do is get a rubber grio I could attach over the handle to stop this.

Hi Richard, What sort of van do you have? Is it a caravan/camper/or?
Cheers Doug.

Doug,
It is an offroad pop-top caravan.
