Just tried B20 BioDiesel for the 1st time, only filled the subtank to see how it goes.
As we don't have an outlet in Chinchilla, I got it in Dalby this morning. Anyone else running B20 and if so is there any issues I should be looking out for.
ie. when to change the fuel filter etc

Cheers Kev

Seemed to have better throttle response but I was not driving into a head wind on the way home ;)

Hi Kev. I use B20 Bio from Gull all the time in my Delica 2.8TD. Always runs better than on BP or Caltex. I ran mine for about two full tanks then changed the filter. Some others I know of need to change filter after one tank. I think a lot depends on the quality of fuel that has been used before Bio. Our B20 is usually between 4 and 8 cents cheaper per litre. I also notice better throttle response and I have noticed that fuel economy has gone from 550 to 650/700 km per tank (75l). I loove the stuff.
Cheers

That's strange,Everyone I know who has used it has had the opposite effect on fuel economy.

Ive run it in my 1HD-FTE for 4 years with no trouble whatsoever.

Gull also, and I use for several reasons.
1/ Its cheaper
2/ Its better for your fuel system (hard to quantify if it doesnt s++t itself)
3/ If everyone keeps buying off the supermarkets there will be NO alternative in a few years.

Dave,
I know what you mean. There are a few of my mates that drive Cruisers as well as Patrols that get marginally worse fuel economy. With mine, 4M40TD same as the Paj, I get around 100km better from a tank. Maybe the Mitsy motor is just that little bit superior:)
Cheers mate

On my trip this year I filled up with biodiesel at the last servo going out of Geraldton and did a very accurate test on the fuel economy as Iwent North.Under the exact same conditions as using standard diesel I got 1/2 km. per litre less---I won't be using it again. It was in a troopy.

been using it almost exclusivly for a few years definitly no fuel economy issues , no difference at all and no other issues except more cash in my pocket

no fuel filter issus
- well just no issues

dont listen to the naysayers passing judgement afer a mere 500km of testing which can be changed by a bit of a head wind

it deinitly doesnt effet theeconomy of a 1hz

I ran a mix of bio in a Western Star doing Syd - Mel for about 3 months and definitely use more fuel than using straight Diesel.

Hi Kev, so does the "B20" mean it has 20% content of Bio products? Im just interested from the point of view that I think I read somewhere that the Common Rail Diesels should not use a fuel with more than 5% Bio, but stand to be corrected on this. Cheers

Young Fella,

Darkie isn't powered by a new tech diesel motor ;)

It is claimed to have up to 20% Bio product in it ;)

Cheers Kev

Sir Kev - I have used B20 when it is handy (usually 4 cents cheaper over in the west) but if not, then any old brand does me in the full diesel range.

Tried monitoring mileage from tank to tank - town and touring, but couldn't really judge any change - being aware of an 'unintended bias' if you are looking for a specific result. Best economy I have had from the many vehicles owned considering the amount of gear I usually haul around. (No good to me in the shed back home).

Running the 2004 NP turbo Pajero - my mechanic isn't complaining and he is fairly fussy - racked up 75,00 k in last 3 years - no complaints from me.

Don't know about the more recent vehicles though - can't keep up with all this new fangled technology they throw into them these days, but will say I am impressed with this particular unit. Great tug and responds when you put the boot in round town or over t'other side of the escarpment.

Hope it works for you.

Cheers - Phil

Freedom in Kingaroy sell B20 and I have been using it for about two years, no problems. I do not believe that the quality of fuel is the main reason for economy, probably the way we drive and the vehicle we drive. Our vehicles we drive are all pre electronic diesels and there for like to be driven hard to get the best out of them.
Driving one for 50Ks aday we only manage around 8.5/K/l after a go run of say 500Ks we start getting around 10.5/k/l

When i can get there (they are 20km away from me and don't open weekends), I use B100 from Fina in Thomastown (Melbourne).
I have a 1HZ powered (or underpowered) HZJ75RP.
No difference in power or economy. Runs just like petro-diesel except 20c per litre cheaper.
Have had no issues whatsoever and only had to change fuel filter (I'm using CAV filters) after just over 6500km.
I use it because it's cheaper and for better lubricity. When using diesel, I add 200:1 TCW3 2-stroke oil to the diesel to improve lubricity.
Certainly a great alternative for older mechanically injected diesels at least.
Cheers,
Peter.

Bio diesel is a warm weather fuel and not suited to below zero temperatures. This makes its use dubious in some regions for much of the year.

Also could catch people out passing through colder areas. For example one travels the New England Highway and stops at Guyra overnight.Guyra is a rather cold place for much of the year. In the morning the vehicle likely will not start until well after day break.

many a time ive got up in the morning and scraped the ice off the windscreen and started first go

like any diesal it wouldnt be suited for very cold temps where alpine diesal is required but below freezing nights definitly isnt a show stopper for Gull 20% bio D

I dont think it makes any difference to performance or economy. I only buy it when Im near a Gull because its cheaper.
The Gull I go to also has double filtration which does slow the flow rate down a little.
