Navara ST-X tyres

I'm about to buy a new Navara ST-X and I'm not happy with the standard good year tyres. I'm thinking of selling them as new and putting on some BFG all terrains. The ST-X have 17" rims and BFG don't have the exact size I need. Does anyone know if I go 1" bigger in overall tyre diameter would be a problem other than the speedo reading?

The tyres would be the least of my worries buying a Navara, article in this mornings Courier Mail about clutches in letters to the car editor. I would be asking your Nissan dealer what the warranty is on clutches, 40,000Ks is not go this person said.

You sure your tyres are 17"? My ST-X has 16" rims and I fitted largest size that would give clearance which were 265 x 75 x 16. BFG - A/T's.
Incidentally that increase in diameter from standard made the speedo 100% accurate instead of reading overspeed as it used to do.

The other thing to remember is to ignore the Nissan Navara knockers that seem to crawl out of their holes everytime one is mentioned!

Hey mate when your Navara has done 300,000 Ks like my MU has done, you than can have the privilege of calling me a knocker.

Gidday

back when I was looking 16in wheels were standard on ST-X with 17s an option. Nissan website says 17s standard on St-X now.

Cheers

Agree with rocco2010 - don't listen to the knockers......I'm another happy D40 Navara owner who has done 50000km now and 40000km of that has been criss-crossing this great country....mostly off the bitumen as well.Mine also has 16" rims and I loaded them with 265/70R16 BFGs before picking the car up new. Did a deal with Mr Nissan.

Oh and Isuzumu I don't think I need to wait around for 300000km.......no doubt the MU is a good truck and I wouldn't knock ti but really it is not the same generation of vehicle. Clutches being clutches and drivers being drivers will always see clutches fail....seems this is a problem with all modern manuals (regardless of who makes them!!!) - so I went for the auto :-)......

And since when is 300,000klm the benchmark , F/inlaw sold his 60 series with 789,000 klm on the clock , claims never to had to put a spanner to the girl , then you look in the service book and he went through standard Tojo clutches every 18mths on average ,,

You didn't mention what sort of driving you'll be doing however as you mentioned BFG All Terrains we'll asume you want and all terrain tyre. Firstly it's not recommended to exceed 5% of the rolling diameter if you are changing wheels/tyres combos. The Speedo can easily be adjusted to suit the minimal variations. Changing the tyre combos can do lots of things, if you stick within the 5% rolling diameter variation you shouldn't need to worry, outside of that seek expert recommendations. I put Pirelli All Terrain Scorpions on my Lux and reckon they are the best tyres I have used, they lean to road rather than the other end like the BFG's but ride quality, noise levels and traction are 1st class.

The sort of driving I will be doing will mainly (80%) black stuff, but I like to minimise any inconvenience off road due to unsuitable tyres.

We fitted BFG AT 265/70/16 to our Navara ST-R and travelled 80% Off Road recently into Rudall River National Park. All Terrain stood up to the rocks very well and more than happy with performance. If there is a descrepency with the speedo we found the GPS gave accurate speedo reading and check your turning circle full lock each way that it doesn't rub.
