Hello,
Looking for some tips on:

1. The best way to get from Perth to Esperance. 2 adults, 2 kids (3+5), towing a jayco eagle. Is it to take the Brookton Hwy, on to Kondinin, to Ravensthorpe etc or is there a better way?

2. The best place to stop for a night or two on the way. Hayden??? Some place not too hot if its possible before you get too the coast

I imagine that it will be mid morning before we get away (lots of packing etc) and we are looking to break up the journey or it will be no fun for us or the kids.

Thanks

Hyden (wave rock) is ok to spend the night

The van park is right at the base of wave rock & the pool is nice in the hot weather & wave rock is wll worth a walk around & walk up on top

Also on the road through of Hyden there is a interesting display made up of old stuff that tells a story of the town & the people who lived there

A must see on the way (short detour) Site Linkis the tin horse highway that is great for kids & adults

Esperance itself is a great little town

Thanks for taking the time to reply, looking forward to Esperance and the 2 1/2 weeks after to make our way to Albany before heading home.
Just trying to make the outbound journey as pleasant as possible.
Cheers,

I would do the long route via Albany on the way to Esperance and go through Hyden on the way home.
Much better when everyone is enthusiastic.
After 2 1/2 weeks away from home you'll probably want to go home via the shortest route

You could try the Lake Johnston Road for something different. plotfile

Providing there's not too much rain the track should be Ok.

If you are chasing the cooler air, consider going down Albany Hwy to Arthur River, then across to Wagin, Dumbleyung, Kukerin, Lake Grace,Newdegate and Lake King. Lake Dumbleyung is where Sir Donald Campbell broke the water speed record. You can turn east half way between Williams and Arthur River onto good bitumen road which brings you down to Wagin but watch closely for the sign post or you will sail on past it.

after living near Hyden for my yooung life, i made the trip the perth many times. very boring in days before air con, radio, dvds etcs,
Hyden, is good for overnight stop, in regards to haveing a pool and rock to climb in early morning.
the tin horse highway is great near Kulin.
From Hyden you can go to lake King but gravel roads i think, will have to check.
if need bitumen, then turn just past Arthur river , Wagin, Lake Grace, which has a shire pool, newdegate, etc but long roads .
Or if want to go sightly south, Kattaning, Gnowangerup, and jerrumunup, where you cvan see the Stirlings from the road, rather than all the way to Albany. there is some stops for Mallee Fowl in Ongerup. Gnowangerup has a pool, and drive slightly less boring. Good luck
