Did a drive for about 200Ks on some fine dirt and the tongues on the tail gate became clogged with dust. When I opened the tailgate the tongues would not come out again. I picked the tongues and they popped out again. Is there a grease / lubricant that is better than others to help reduce the clogging?

Thanks

Ted

one drawback of grease and/or oil it actually attracts the dust and can make it worse as it will clog it up solid, you can try carbon (graphite) powder, it is a lube but in a dry dust form and wont attract dust ........ only other thing to try it to clean them out maybe with a pressure cleaner to get rid of all build up and use a tiny bit of "copper cote" only on the bits that really need it, when it drys out it "may" leave some copper there to continue anti friction and just leave them dry ....

For any application where dust attraction is likely to be an issue, I prefer to use this stuff here >> =itw-rp500974] Molybond 122L

Not cheap by any means, but a little goes a long way, it does not attract dust, and it's as slippery as a used car salesman.......

I get it from Bursons

I agree it is good stuff.

Just don't carry a tin in the back of the truck......its' highly flammable, Flash Point is less than 23 celsius and it also contains Ketone solvents so it can't be used on painted surfaces or anywhere there is a rubber seal.

It's also got Phosphoric Acid in it, so it will etch metal surfaces.

Do not use grease, as it will attract more dust.

What I have seen done before is prople use Duct Tape, across the gap between the tailgate and the body propper.

If you have a canopy, you might try a ventilator (like the ones on dog trailers) on top of it. That will give you positive pressure, and that in turn will keep out the dust.
