forerunner front diff

Hi all ,My son has a 87 2.2 forerunner with a stuffed front diff and axle boots can we remove the complete diff assy to be serviced leaving the front drive shaft in place (securely fastend of course ) so he can still drive to work while the rebuild is being done .Thanks

You can take the diff ass. out and still drive the vehicle why not take the drive shaft out as well. You will need to put a cover on the banjo to keep oit dirt and dust.

Of cause you will have to remove both axles.

I presume you are talking about an IFS front end and you want to know if you can just wire the right and left drive shafts up to the chassis and make sure the FW hubs are disengaged???
If this is the csae then you would need to make sure that the shafts are free to move with the steering as the CV joints allow for this in a complete assembly.
I have towed a IRS VW with the gearbox removed and just made sure the shafts couldn't drop.
I guess it's possible ...... but..... you'd have to be careful and only as an emergency type of thing.
