Hi,
We are looking for camping areas near the water either beach or river suitable for kayaking and camp area suitable for camper trailer on the North Coast / Mid North Coast of NSW. Also dog friendly.
We are set up self sufficient campers, so no amenities needed.
Does anyone know of any good places?
Cheers,
Matt & Lucy

Try Wooli, dog friendly, tidal creek frontages, surf, fishing. South of Grafton north of Coffs Harbour. But, very, very, very muddy up here at present. Most other places for self sufficient camping on the coast are national sparks and wildfires ... no puppies.

Yeah, Wooli seems to be quite popular, and even saw some campers on the other side of the creek when I was up there earlier this year (tho was only up there to explore a little).

Definitely look up around the Coffs and further north areas...
You could even perhaps approach a land owner (farm size) and ask them if they'll let you set up camp for a small donation to their beer fund?? might work..

Do a search of Clarence River Camping farm stays.
There are several of them up/down river of Tabulam
As previous thread said, taking a dog restricts you greatly.

Several council style caravan parks north of Coffs (Rd Rock, Corindi) would probably permit your dog.

Hi Matt & Lucy.
There some top spots to stay around the Mann River.
There is the Mann River C/Park, And Another couple of nights we have stayed there as well. I believe the river is shut to fishing until Noverber sometime to fishing. They do allow dogs if you ring them first. Barry & Jan are the guys that run the show. heaps of places to visit around there, A climb up the H/way to Rasberry look out.
If you wanted to free camp there is Cangai or Hanging Rock. And up the Clarence further where Mark said.
Here is a place that I haven't stayed at as yet, but we will one day, Coombadjha Creek I don't know if they allow dogs, ring them ask.
Or even around the Nymboida area.
None of these place would be suitable ATM with the amount of rain that has fallen, most of the rivers are well and truly full or in flood.
Happy trails.

Depends what sort of kayaking you want - if it's white water, i think barrington as previously suggested, although this is pretty much novice/beginner stuff. If you want hairier than that you'll need to look at new England area - but I suspect you are after estuary/river stuff. If that is the case there is nowhere in the world better than Jimmy's Beach at Hawks Nest just N of N'cstle. Council run, doggies allowed and on the best bit of bay/estuary you'll ever see. You'll have dolphins for company and if you want to explore a river, you have the Myall River 5 mins away which leads into a fantastic chain of lakes. Jimmy's is the place mate - do a web search/google earth, you won't regret it - if the weather is kind you won't better it. there's heaps around here.

Some of those camps just in from grafton up the Mann/Clarence area are good too but maybe a bit further out. Jimmy's gets busy at busy times but go in between and it's paradise.

just noticed the bush camping bit - if you really want to do that there are a few camps on the Myall Lakes around the Wallingat State Forest (just N of the aforementioned Jimmy's) Doggies ok and you aren't too far from Forster/Tuncurry which also offer easy/nice estuary stuff - the Lakes are nice paddling as they aren't generally big/open/one-dimensional things like dams can be. Plenty of bays/nooks/inlets etc and interesting.

Hi MLM17

Iluka is also a wonderful place for a stay, river and ocean. The Anchorage Caravan Park is dog friendly and a nice quiet town with pub overlooking the river, great beaches and walks. Enough shops to satisfy, quiet safe and friendly.
You can also catch a ferry over to Yamba for a day trip.
Cheers
Suellen

I love these kind of Q's on here......we all come out the other end with lot's more information for future reference.

I have put all of the locations that I am not familiar with into my black book.

Well done good people, and if you get the opportunity, visit Polley's Place in the foothills of the Barrington Tops. You won't be disappointed.

Fred.
