Camping is just outside the park now days.

I think the road into the park will be closed at the moment as there has been some big rain in the area. The Injune - Rolleston road was closed due to flooding on the weekend as well.

I'd ring the Ranger to check before leaving home.

Cheers Kev

Hi Mark

There is only the privately run camp ground which is quite nice with good amenities, but expensive. Check out reports on Badger's.

Takkaraka

Camping in the Carnarvon Gorge day-use area is only permitted during the Easter, winter and spring Queensland school holidays. Bookings can be made on line.

Thanks Motherhen,
I thought i'd read somewhere that the NP camp was closed most of the time, thats a shame as we prefer the wild camping to the private camps with facilities etc. We will probably still go and spend a couple of days before moving on.
Cheers

Hi Mark

If conditions allow access and access to the walks, two nights would be a minimum.

Even though it was the most expensive CP we'd ever been to (we are generally bush and national parks campers), it is in a nice bushland setting. We would have stayed for three nights, but the good big site we got was only available for two. Booking is a good idea. They do not have anywhere to leave the caravan to do walks on the third day, so we missed the short walks just prior to entering the main gorge. We took the 1,000 steps to the lookout points the first day, and next day did the long walk up the creek and to most of the side features; about 25 kms all up that day. Lots of people stayed a week and just walked a bit further each day, taking different side tracks each time, but it is possible to do it as far as Big Bend in the one day. That is so long as the creek levels allow access, as the trail crosses the creek on stepping stones about 23 times. Take a walking stick (people leave them in a pile near the first crossing) to help balance on the stepping stones. We loved it.
