Now that they have been around for a while which one do people think are better, the trusty Oztent or the roomier (and more $$$) jet tent?. I am still undecided on which one to go for, to fit us all in I would need 2x the large model which ever way I go.
How long does it take to setup the jet tent?
any thoughts
regards

Hi
Don't know about the Jet tent but on my last tour I had customers with
Oztents and all complained about condensation dripping from one of the metal bars inside, onto their head. Fixed it by wrapping a towel over the bar.
I know all unvented tents will suffer from condensation but in the Oztent it all runs one way. Having said that they seem to be a quality bit of gear.
Cheers Teza

The Oztent has vents, I have never had a serious condensation problem. As for the Jettent what is the difference to the Oztent, they look almost identical.?

Jet tent seems almost identical to the blackwolf turbo tents.
I'd say it'll take under 5 mins to setup if you don't have a fly. As with the oztent I reckon the longest time spent setting up is (a) deciding on where to put it, (b) putting down shadecloth/tarp under tent (if you use something like that), (c) hammering pegs in.
The fly on our blackwolf adds another 5mins or so depending on how many guy ropes you use.

We just leave the fly on the blackwolf and roll it all up together. Then it all goes up as just one system.

Hi Trev
I have only seen the Jet Tent on the internet and they are a lot dearer than the Oztent. Like I have said before many times here on the
forum, we have the RV4 and is the best tent that we have ever owned. With the comment above, if condensation could be a problem then the fly is a good investment, bur like many comments also here on the
forum, given the right conditions, it will happen to any tent.
On a word of warning and one that we learned the hard way is always use the guy ropes to secure the tent. On our forced long way hope from the Simpson recently, we had set up in the
Quilpie caravan park like normal - just unfold the tent and just put 2 pegs in to pull out the rear. Just after tea we were struck my a mini tornado with such force that Fiona and I had to hold the top front bar of the tent to stop it from blowing away. Even though that we held it, the wind was so intense and such a violent force as to put a nice banana bend in the bar, the front bottom of the tent was
well over 300mm off of the ground and we did stop the tent from blowing away. That wind did a lot of damage, with all other tents blown down, chairs and tables from one side of the park to the other and caravans having their awnings blown off. I have since replaced the bent bar and the tent is like new again.
A very happy Oztent owner.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Mick
We have been in our tent many times in the rain, and some very heavy rain at that and our tent also has never leaked a drop of water. The point that I was making was that there was nothing holding the tent to the ground and like any object that is not secure, it will only follow the forces of nature. Yes the ARB Roof top tents are great, but the big difference is that yours was secured to your vehicles roof.
Cheers
Stephen

We have had an OzTent RV3 for several years now and feel they are a fantastic unit in almost all areas. You will get condensation in some conditions, if you don't use a fly, (optional extra but
well worth it), but that is true of all tents.
The downside is that they are in a big long and quite heavy bag, especially for an old bugger like myself and I have made quite a few mods to my LC200 so I can lay it flat in the rear. Luckily in in the 200 they will fit behind the centre console, just!!
As for erection time (steady guys), 30 seconds is the most time it takes. It wouldn't take more that 10 secs to set up the basic tent once you have it on the ground out of the bag. If you put on all the extra side and front walls, all extras, it will take a lot more time.
JetTent is an OzTent, if I am not mistaken and I suspect it was produced by OzTent to combat Black Wolf advantage of a much smaller carry bag, thats the only advantage that I can think of. Some say that the OzTent is too low to stand up in. Doesn't bother me, I'm only 5' 8" but can't imagine that Black Wolf is much different.
At the end of the day, if you want quality, then OzTent has the goods and I imagine Jet Tent, which is the same company will match the quality.

The blackwolfs (at least the larger sizes like the 300) do have a lot more headroom than the oztents. As
well as the smaller bag I think the headroom and space inside the tent, compared to standard oztent, would be the main reason for oztent doing the jet tent thing.
