Hi every one I'm new to 4wd haven't been out yet. My partner and I are heading off early in the new year, I have a friend who is selling me his 05 Prado Low ks and very good condition, have been told to look into fitting either the Steinbauer or the Dtronic chips have any of you people had these items fitted and is it worth the expense. A few words of wisdom from you would be gratefully received
Most warm regards

Woody,
If you can get a copy of 4 wheel Drive Action Magazine (2nd last issue), they did a great product comparo on the fuel management chips including the Steinbauer. It was comprehensive and the results may
well surprise you. The Dtronic was not mentioned but then it's an ARB stocked product isn't it? They usually don't allow reviews outside their pet magazines (pardon my cynicism!).
Grab the mag if you can, It's a great write up.
Cheers Mick

Gidday Woody,
I fitted the Dtronic to my TD100 series LC just after I bought it new back in 2006, also installed a larger intercooler and exhaust.
I gained about 25kw and much improved torque and definately felt the extra power when I drove it out the mechanics. The economy is better also, but I tend to use the extra power so the economy has been blown out the window.
I have not had any issues with it and am glad I put it in.
Happy 4 wheel driving.
Cheers
Glenn

Hi Woody,
I don't have any personal experience with either if these chips yet, but you might want to look on a hilux
forum, newhilux.net
The hilux motor is pretty much the same as the Prado, and there is a lot of talk on the hilux
forum about peoples personal experience with these chips in their hiluxs.
My understanding is that the Steinbaur is the preferred option, particularly with a 3 inch exhaust
Good luck

I have fitted the Steinbauer to my TD 06 Hilux and I haven't had the car dynoed yet, waiting for a Taipan Exhaust. The chip is currently set to a minimal position and there is no doubt the vehicle pulls so much better. Steinbauer publish the actual dyno results for each chip.

Woody have recently fitted the Staunbauer to my JK Wrangler. Power is obviously up but not push you back in the
seat type of power. Torque however is excellent pulling from just over idle & has transformed the car particually for towing. The big surprise was the improvement in econemy dropping a touch over one litre per 100.
I was also impressed with the inbuilt feature that detunes the car back to standard power after an extended period of running flat out thereby avoiding an engine failure if you got carried away ;-)
From my homework the Staunbauer is the superior product & so far working above expectation.

Thanks Craig just spoke to a chap from Stienbauer in
Toowoomba hell of a nice guy name of Daniel gave me some very good advice didn't have to change exhausts like the guy from Dtronic told me I HAD to do, but if I do change the exhaust it will give me an extra 10 percent so still tossing up which way to go
Thanks again mate realy appreciate the help

the best approach is to find someone who can remap your existing ECU - this will produce far betters results at a much lower price. I saw the 4WD Action article and was amazed at how pathetic the power increases were for the price. I have a Td5 Discovery, and for $500, I can find a number of companies and private individuals who will remap my ECU from mild (25% power increase) to wild (100% power increase if also fitting aftermarket intercooler ($500-1000), adjusting turbo wastegate setting and fitting turbo boost electronic box ($100) and removing centre muffler). I prefer mild for the sake of longevity, but there are people running around in the wild versions - 200kw and 550Nm with 11 litres/100km...who needs a V8...

hi woody, placed a steinbauer to my jeep commander and made it an awaesome towing /off road machine. need to do some homework as some of the cheaper chips you have to spend money in replacing the exhaust, with the steinbauer there is a need too. also my brother in law did $4500 damage to his turbo and exhaust with a cheap chip.. as far as the magazine test steinbauer was the overall winner!!!! tah chris
