Hi all,
I've done the SA/VIC
border track once (sth and nth done at different times).
I keep seeing deep holes as deep as the vehicles on the internet but I have never come across these. Are these old pictures that the Rangers have now diverted around?
Ta,

they are still there or were last
easter
they are mostly at the bottom (sth) end of the
big desert section.
some were 1.8mts deep, i have never seen such bog holes before and would be very interesting when full of
water as you would not expect such a hole under the
water!

thanks for that. I must have done a 'male look' last time. I'll keep my eye out for them.

G'day Gossy - they are at the very very end of the south track. Most people either turn left or right to head home ( or elswhere ) around
red bluff. They are also on the very left of the track as some people tend to veer right and take the Kentucky Fried route ! Suggestion - don't drive thru them unless there is someone else there to pull you out, especially if they have a fair bit of
water in them !
Cheers and Beers

Ah, that could be why. We cut in West early when on the sthn part and spent the night in the
camp grounds, then came out onto the highway via Gosse
Hill.
next time I'm down there I'll keep heading sth. Agree, not keen to drive thru them but would be interesting to see them at least.
Cheers,

There were a series of big bog holes at the northern end of the
Border Track up until about 8 years ago. My understanding is the Army went through one winter & left a bit of a mess. 4x4 club vollunteers together with Parks filled them in & at the same time bypassed a couple of the bigger dunes as
well. As an additional thankyou SA Parks then put a summer closure on the one way section of track further restricting access. The remnants of those bogholes can be found south of
Red Bluff on the Victorian side but be careful when they are full as can be seen by this shot from 2002.
Cheers Craig..............
