Steep Point Road

We did the Steep Point Road today. After having a look for trek notes yesterday, we only found old ones, so think it needs a bit of an update.

The road was great. A bit sandy in places, but just what you would expect for dunes. There was some corregations, but nothing too serious. And there was some roadworks going on.

We didn't tow the camper trailer (left it in Denham), and I wouldn't have liked to take it, but there were a few fishermen there with standard light trailers and tents. They hadn't had any trouble. There was only a couple of steep dune climbs. Most of the climbing was done by switchbacks.

We made sure we put the tyres down to 20psi, which made the sandy bits nice and floaty. We checked in with the rangers, but no-one checked the tyres. It did make it a better ride being lower though. There are a few rocky patches that you have to be aware of with the tyres so low.

It was only the last 40k or so that we needed the tyres lower, most of the road in was great.

All in all, it wasn't a challenging 4WD, but it was beautiful, and a bit of fun.

when I was there about 3 months ago I saw a couple of boats about 5 meter being towed in, would have been hard going though I reckon.

Yes, it was very windy. It was an easterly, which I take it from comments is a little unusual. It has been very blowy along the coast for the last few days. There was some balloon fishermen along the coastal side. The guys said usually they fish along the inlet side as the wind is southerly. But not today.

There were about 5 fishing trawlers taking shelter in the bay too.
