Hi all.

Trying to recall the name/details of a caravan park in Melbourne that is popular with travellers waiting to board the Tasmania Ferry. From memory they will even arrange convoys of vans and also allow a late check out.

Can anyone help me with the name or details.

Many thanks

John

Hi John
We chose Ashley Gardens in Braybrook as the easiest prior to our day crossing. We had never been to Melbourne before. Easy to get to from all directions (is right near a ring road). This is used principally by people going to and from Tasmania. They also have an area to park vans for those who go without their caravans, as well as cabins. At $32 per night in 2006 (so most likely a bit more now) it was expensive, but it is well located, easy to get find, and easy to get to the ferry terminal. Staff give out a map of how to get to the ferry terminal and advise to leave early. We were about the last to leave the park and just followed the convoy of caravans until we were on the ferry.

If you are on a night sailing, it is sometimes nice to stay just north of Melbourne (depending where you are coming from). We often stay at Tocumwal - a couple of hours out. There is limited parking for vehicles and vans at the port, but just around the corner on the road to the Western Freeway there is an industrial area with plenty of on street free parking. This way, you can board the ferry well into the boarding time - no worries about traffic, getting lost, parking fees/fines etc. You can stay parked until well after boarding has commenced and pretty well drive straight on.

Hi John, we stayed at Werribee South CP earlier this year. Many Tassie trippers use this park as it is only about 1/2 to 3/4 hr down the Geelong freeway on the right side of the city. Only about $21 per night, early check in for those getting off the ship AM and late check-out for those getting the night sail over. Just turn off the FW immediately over the Westgate Bridge at the Shell Service Centre and duck under the bridge off-ramp to the docklands. This avoids the low railway bridge that causes some vanners a problem,
Anyway, have a great trip, Tassie is all that they say it is,
