Hi everyone,
I have to say I was surprised at the results to the current poll - Should ExplorOz continue to create memorabillia photo prints from Members Photo Comps to auction at National Gatherings? 44% YES. The reason we ask this question is that we have had two auctions so far and NO proxy bids were received to either, and only a few active voters participate at the auctions and this meant we only just covered costs with the final bid which doesn't cover the enormous effort put in by organisers to have judges select the photos for the print, organise for the print to be created on canvas, delievered and to organise an auctioneer. We are happy to put the effort in if it is valued enough that it becomes a great fundraiser for charity but it is a bit deflating when it isn't that successful. Some of you know, that the same person has managed to get both canvas prints from 2009 and 2010. I was thinking of canning the idea, but still running the Members Photo Comp - as that is very popular and we can sort out much bigger prizes and do it more frequently but I'm specifically interested in the auction of the canvas print. So continue to vote, and if you wish to discuss, do it here. Thanks :-)

Hi Michelle,
Rather than auctioning these prints, why not raffle them?
There may be some, like me, with limited funds or budgets, who would be happy to buy into a raffle.

Cheers,
Dennis

Hi Michelle

I think Dennis's idea of a raffle is great, the proceeds to go to a charity
or scout/guide group in the area of the National Gathering, I would think
that with well over 2000 members if we all spent $1 each or more we
should well and truly cover the costs.

I just checked and it was 83% YES.

Should ExplorOz continue to create memorabillia photo prints from Members Photo Comps to auction at National Gatherings?

Yes (43 votes - 83%)

No (9 votes - 17%)

Yep...right at this minute is 47 votes yes 82% ---- 10 votes no 18%.

Maybe all that triathlon training has left some brains oxygen deprived LOL LOL

BTW the raffle is a great idea. I'm all for that.

Another way to look at the result is that only approx 50 people bothered to vote, that in itself, shows very little interest.

Maybe polls need to be more visible. I hardly ever go to my home page, and that's where the poll is at present, therefore I never think of the current poll. Maybe it could be a members popup like MM alerts so that they are more visible when we log on.

An auction will only ever raise a limited amount. A raffle can raise a much larger amount with minimal pain to the contributors. And anyway, I like raffles after winning the CSR trip with Peter Ikin.
