telstra grab

As one who likes to travel I also like to keep in touch with family etc and to do this I purchased a telstra wireless internet usb stick for my laptop

For $20 I got 500mb of date which expired every 30 days
Any existing credit would carry over to the next 30 day period if you renewed befor your expiry date
Worked well except my credit kep building

Well now Telste has informed me via text that as of the end of this month
because it was so popular they have reduced the amount of time you have to use your prepaid credit to 21 day instead of 30 days-go figure

Wife got the same message on her account , just been looking at the prepaid plans , seems to be that if you prepay $150 when you do a recharge you have 10gb and 365 days to use it. Beats the hell out of $30 every 30 now to go to 21 days.

Do as I did Snapper, as same problem occurred to me. Instead of renewing with $20.00 credit each time, only renew with $10.00 each period until your credit is used up, as eventually it will catch up. Remaining credit will still carry over at the end of each period of time so long as some credit is put towards it, whether it be $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00. The only thing you need to keep an eye on is the fact that as you are putting less money in, your price per megabyte increases, so your money still won't go far, but at least you get to use it all up. When you get back to Zero credit, then you can start with $20.00 all over again, and the price per megabyte will drop down accordingly. Hope this helps a bit.

A $10 recharge?? where do you see that feature? I'm looking at http://www.telstra.com.au/bigpond-internet/mobile-broadband/prepaid/rates/index.htm and don't see anything resembling this :(

Forget what you are looking at on a screen, as you can recharge with as much or as little as you want on a pre-paid Telstra phone or wireless internet. The wireless broadband internet USB Stick has a mobile phone number which you can use to recharge it with. I know as I have both of these and have been using both for 4 years, also have post paid mobile phone and bigpond wireless internet.(also Telstra). There is a facility on a mobile re-charge called "Credit Me 2u". With this facility you can transfer any amount of credit from one phone to another, including from your mobile to your wireless broadband usb stick. I have done it many times from the outback when in range of a mining company repeater station. Try it out for yourself. It works, so have a nice day.

So what we are talking about is the "Credit me 2u" option rather than the whole prepaid facility? ;)

I see on Whirlpool this being discussed now that this payment option will only extend the deadline 2 weeks flat rather than 2 weeks on top of the end expiry of the rest of the credit (if that makes sense). Link for the discussion: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1555984

If i have the information correct, it will only affect those who use the C2U option for the added benefit when recharging. I had never used this option, rather had opted for the recharge via sms though i can see where it would have been handy. Thanks for the headsup on that service.

Hi Snapper, Alloy C/T,
Been reading your comments with interest and am thinking of taking the financial plunge for internet when I'm travelling.
1. Been scouring the Telstra website for prepaid wireless data, and I can't find that 500MB for $20 you mentioned, except on a Consumer Mobile-as-data-modem plan (ie, tethered to your phone). Otherwise, it's $30 for 400MB for a dedicated wireless modem. Can either of you direct me?
2. Can't seem to find the $150 for 10GB over 365day offer anywhere either!

Whirlpool seems to be the only site which gives any useful info. Trawling Telstra's site is a pain to find any detail. Neither sites seem to give the info you provided.
BTW, I have scoured the archives here!
Cheers,
Gerry

Telstra media release today
Value boost to keep Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband customers connected
Media Release 20 October 2010Telstra Consumer Executive Director Rebekah O’Flaherty said the revised recharge allowances, costing $20, $30, $50 and $150, would further satisfy the nation’s growing appetite for connecting wirelessly. The four revised allowances will offer customers data increases ranging from around 12% to 150%.

“Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband is a great choice for people who want to keep track of what they’re spending month to month as there are no bills or fixed term contracts.

“Couple this with the speed and reliability of Telstra’s Next GTM network – the largest and fastest national mobile broadband network in Australia – and you’ve got an attractive solution for customers at home and on the move,” Ms O’Flaherty said.

Changes to Telstra’s Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband recharge allowances include:
Great recharge value – Customers who recharge $30 will receive 700MB of data (up from 400MB), and Telstra’s $150 option will more than double to 10GB (up from 4GB).
Wider choice of expiry periods – Extended recharge periods will apply on selected allowances: the new 4GB allowance can be used for 60 days and the 6GB allowance will offer 90 days of use before credit expires. The $20 recharge option will expire after 21 days however the data allowance will be boosted to 250MB.
Bonus credit – Customers will receive an additional bucket of credit which can be used to make standard national calls SMS.
Ease of use – Telstra will continue to offer great benefits such as no bills or fixed term contracts, plus easy access to balance, account and recharge history which can all be viewed from the customer’s desktop.

The new recharge allowances coincide with the upcoming launch of Telstra’s new Elite Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband Modem and Pre-Paid Mobile Wi-Fi on 26 October.

“Telstra’s Elite Pre-Paid modem is the fastest 3G Pre-Paid mobile broadband modem in Australia. Additionally, our new mobile Wi-Fi option shares a Next GTM network connection with up to five devices simultaneously. And because they’re Pre-Paid, there’s no fixed term contract or monthly spend commitments,” Ms O’Flaherty said.

How come i'm not seeing this issue listed on the Telstra website, whirlpool etc. Can someone confirm this from the horses mouth rather than a SMS to be true before we get out the pitchforks and run riot! :)

Hi again Andrew, I have found the brochure on this subject and have a web address for you to have a look at which may help answer your questions. Log onto www.telstraprepaidplus.com and look for re-charge option "Credit Me2U", and perhaps this may have some information to help you out, Cheers Lyndon.
