Off Road Caravans

Hi All We are interested in having a
Spinifex off road van built. Anyone out there have any feedback? We have also looked at Kedron and Bushtracker but Spinifex look very good but they are quite new.

I had a look at one locally owned here a few weeks ago. I was very impressed.

Their website is very good.

Only 2 reservations, but these are far outweighed by the positives:

The wiring under the skin could be a bit neater,
and the one I looked at had a tare weight 140kgs more than my Bushtracker of the same size. I could see areas where weight could be reduced so it's probably just a matter of talking to the manufacturer.

One other thing to consider is resale value. A van by new kids on the block, albeit a very good one, may not have the same resale value of, say, a Bushtracker.

By the way, the one I looked at cost the same as my BT too. So no longer can the criticism of "heavy" and "pricey" be levelled at Bushtrackers exclusively.

Anyway, I think you would be very happy with a Spinifex. They make a good van.

Hi Manlymob,

I agree with the great points that Gone bush makes. Where Gone bush has a Bushtracker, I have a Kedron but know all three vans well.

Spinifex guys come from Kedron a few years ago and you can see this is the design. Spinifex have disc brakes where the other two have drums. Bushtracker have a Waeco fridge and Kedron an Engel. Not certain which one Spinifex have it might be Vitrifrigo.

Cost and weight all seem very similar but I would rate Bushtracker stronger than the other 2 but the other two "prettier" on the inside. Bushtracker is more about function.

I think the resale value would be better on the other two just for the reason that, they are more well known and someone might not look at Spinifex, even if they saw it. All three are made withing 100 kilometers of each other so this is not an issue either.

I have not heard feedback about how Spinifex are with warranty claims. There will be some as there are with every carvavan. Generally they are a great van.

manlymob,

I take your name means that you live in Manly in Brisbane moreso than the size of your testes (lol) so why not have a factory tour of each place.

I have been receiving construction photos of a friends Spinifex while it's being built. They look good. I also believe the Spinifex staff are very customer orientated and listen to your suggestions and ideas. Unfortunately this is not a feature at BT.

I have owned my BT for 12 months now and love it. But I can see where a few little changes would be beneficial.

If you do get to order a Spininfex get in touch with me and I'll pass on these ideas. Put them into the whole mix of ideas you will gather and take it from there.

Ditto to that idea. When you design a caravan there are things you never imagine you need.

We had our wired for HDMI cables because in a few years all TV / DVD players will use these cables and not RCA leads. You cannot fit them later to a caravan. We also had it wired so that a second XBOX could be played from the annex. Ok these things are a bit over the top but most manufacturers are not that forward thinking.

I have had a few dealings with Spinifex and found them very helpful - and their product looks good too.

If I was you I'd pop in and talk to them - won't do any harm...

If you go touring the factories, have a look at Phoenix, I think that you will be impressed. We have had one for five years now and over 60000k,s and could not be happier, good people to deal with too.
Cheers, Nev.
