Hi all,
we are looking at our first off road camper trailer, car is a Nissan patrol 3.o
we have looked at a few and would like to know if there are some companies that we should stay away from. I visited one shop and found things like tail light screws sticking out at the back so the sharp point was exposed also no sealing rubbers to me this is just poor workmanship.
Also reading on this site about suspension for a camper it mentions that shock absorbers should be at the correct angle, what angle is this if anyone knows?
many thanks Dave Karen & Luke

Hi Freetime

When it comes to using any trailer or camper "off road" it depends on where you intend on travelling, and the conditions of the roads.

I say this as this past year I have welded up 11 A Frames that had cracked, fractured or just snapped. I have also tightened and or welded a further 5 hitches, and it basically comes down to some people thinking their "off road" trailer or camper could handle the trip without a concern.

I cannot yet recall finding the tyre pressures adjusted the same as the towing vehicle, hence extensive damage to goods in the trailers / campers. That is just something to think about. I am no expert and do not pretend to be, I just happen to live in an area where unless your vehicle is ready for rough roads, you don't bother driving.

Cheers
Why travel overseas, you could travel Australia your entire life, and not see it all.

Hi Dave/Karen & Luke,

What sort of coin are you looking to part with? Are you looking at hard floor or soft floor?

Where do you plan on taking the trailer? A trip down to a local camping spot on good dirt roads or taking it down the CSR?

I believe in the saying you get what you pay for (up to a point) Dont Buy too cheap as they have cut corners to keep the price down. Ensure the canvas is fully treated and not just sprayed (this is common in canvas coming out of China).

Cheers Wilko

We spent 3 yrs travelling in an O'briens offroad trailer. They are true offroad. We did the gibb river rd, cape york, flinders ranges, through the centre. We never had any trouble with the trailer at all. They are quick to set up, heaps of storage and well built. The staff are very helpful to.Click here to have a look at them

As others have mentioned it depends on where you plan on going. How offroad do you plan on going. We had heaps of dealers tell us their trailers were offroad until we mentioned cape york or gibb river rd.
We have some info about buying trailers on our website if you want to have a look. http://www.kidsandall.webs.com/
Hope this helps and happy looking. Take your time and look at as many as possible. They are all different and find the one that suits what you want to do.
