Hi I will be travelling from
Geelong to
Esperance April next year towing a 17ft windsor rapid. I will be meeting people in espperance and sight see on the return trip. Can anyone suggest the best route and
places to stay. I am travelling with 2 boys 6 & 9 (good travellers) Any tips ?
Thanks

Go thru
Melbourne to
Adelaide and
Port Augusta and across the Nullabor. Turn left at
Norseman.
Don't know about Vic for
places to stay.
Port Augusta Big4 is good as is
Ceduna Foreshore then
Eucla (not border village), Fraser Range and
Esperance. As mentioned in other threads there are a lot of
places to
free camp if that is your bag.
Of course it depends on how far you want to travel each day, vehicle etc.

Hi Larry, we have just recently arrived in Ocean Grove from
Perth and we had a fantastic trip across. Decided to go South from
Perth to
Albany and
Esperance, then up to
Norseman, across Nullabor to
Ceduna, then went south to
Streaky Bay,
Port Lincoln, up to
Port Augusta. From there went thru
Flinders Ranges across to
Renmark,
Mildura and down to
Geelong.
There is plenty to see along the way -
Esperance is fantastic with its beaches and coastline. The trip from
Norseman to
Ceduna can be done depending on how much time you have, and there is plenty of fuel and accomm along the way.
If you have time
Streaky Bay,
Venus Bay,
Coffin Bay NP are great
places to visit.
Streaky Bay CP is a good place to spend a couple of days, right on the bay and great for kids.
Loved the
Murray River and
Mildura area, seemed to be plenty of
places to
free camp. Weather was great.
Have a great trip and take your time. Alan

Hi Larry,
If you're travelling in a reasonable 4wd, and are a bit adventurous, I recommend:
1. drop down to the historic Eyre Telegraph Station (
Eyre Bird Observatory) south of Cocklebiddy on the Nullarbor.
2. At Balladonia, turn south and take the rough track thru to
Israelite Bay, then all points west to
Esperance (several options).
Lots of info if you want it. Check out trek notes on this web site.
cheers,
Gerry

"At Balladonia, turn south and take the rough track through to Israelite Bay"
That rough track is so rough its closed, your better off going on to
Norseman and then heading down to
Esperance.
Agreed
Israelite Bay is worth visiting (with 4x4) but you need to approach from
Esperance.
Steve.

Hi Steve,
Was out there about 2 years ago, no problems. Which part is closed? Old Balladonia or Parmango roads, the track to TookleJenna/Israelite, or the northern section (blocking the lot)? If there's been rain, then any of the above can get quite sticky, but otherwise it's just rough.
Pity if it is closed, as there's a lot of very interesting things to see like Balbinya and Mt Ragged.

water fillled washouts in this section capable of swamping most vehicles. Road in poor condition.

Its closed. been so for a while and I am told its likely to be for some time as its a shire road and they have no resources to repair / open it.
