OziExplorer CE issues.......is there a user group?

Is there a web site user group or the like for help on OZi Ce?.......cant work out a couple of things like

1 Waypoints in CE are saved as .wpb and wont load onto the normal Ozi which uses the extension .wpt the funny thing is that CE loads the .wpt from the full version

2. Changing the .wpb to .wpt doesnt work in trying to get the full version to load the CE created .wpb

3. Have learnt that the route file extension has to be created on Ozi and the default .rte has to be changed to .rt2 for CE version to load

4. Cant get some track trails created on CE to load on the full version

Cant find the answers in the help files....in fact waypoints, routes and tracks are supposed to be read by either program version regardless of of which program created them........as I understand it

Thanks

If they don't have an FAQ for some of that stuff they need to get their act together, I am surprised by the volume of OziExplorer questions that get posted here, not the most user friendly app going around.
On their website the Australian site link seems to have way more support information.

The thing is with oziexplorer is you ask for as feature and it gets added whereas as my other GPS program is very user friendly it just does bugger all, the downside is a bit of complexity.

Charlie, you are right, but there is a capability to get involved to the level of your capability in understanding what is a very comprehensive mapping system.

TerraFirma, it is hardly surprising as this site supports everything and all levels of experience. There can be a decent learning curve with OziExplorer and OziCE too. It is good Australian software and I have a licence for Memory Map that I wish I didn't as it is only half the program of Ozi

Agree on Memory Map however I feel the OziExplorer website, faq's etc need some work. The learning curve for OE could be reduced imo. I would love the Motion X GPS developers to get hold of the OE intellectual property and take it to the next stage.

If the other developers are that capable, they can compete. It is an open market. TerraFirma, have you ever used the Screen Designer to see what developments you can do?

There are some interesting Youtube videos showing the extension of the OziCE software and many tutorials too.

I think if there is some powerful software it will take a learning curve to negotiate it.

I have just been looking for the Google references to it to find it all on an iPhone as an app and it works from the triangulation of phone towers if it can get sufficient signal. In other words, out of phone range the accuracy will go, I know accuracy does drop off going to one phone tower. Mind you, I have seen my Magellan GPS wander a considerable distance and see huge speeds register while sitting in a shed.

If you took a commitment to work on a selection of menus in screen designer you could change the front end, should you so wish. There may be a different screen for you to download. I have seen some fascinating aircraft ones

"I am surprised by the volume of OziExplorer questions that get posted here, not the most user friendly app going around"

Hi

The volume of questions relates to the large number of users...not because the program isn’t "user friendly". Doubt very much that it relates to the program being harder to use than any other program with similar capabilities.

Perhaps Greg but the nature of the questions above and the rather messy website suggest there is room for improvement imo.

Hi

Don’t think its "Perhaps". You get very few posts on other GPS mapping programs because far less people use them, not because they are necessarily better, if they were then why aren’t people using them?

And to add to my previous comments, based on my observations I suspect a lot of new users of OziExplorer are also new to using computers/GPS. Problems people have with OziExplorer are therefore compounded by this fact, making it appear OziExplorer (and other programs) are not user friendly.

Always room for improvement.

Cheers
Greg

Just quickly (got work to do :(

The help files have been criticised before in the past and I agree they are a bit short on detail in some areas. For example the solution to the 1st question asked above is contained within the help file but it is not specifically stated as the method to use when transferring waypoint data for use with the PC version.

Figure if someone wrote an OziExplorer user manual it would be popular.

Some information on the website is also hard to track down as it is "hidden" in links located inside other links. It can therefore be difficult to re-locate info you know is there somewhere - happened to me a few times in the past.

Cheers

Thanks Greg, think you are spot on. Perhaps you could do some part time consulting to OE.? LOL

Hi
The *.wpb file can only be used by the OziCe program (it's in some binary (?) format that allows faster searching etc than the standard *.wpt format).

To use waypoints created in OziCe with the PC version you must save the waypoints using

File - Waypoints - Export WP's to File

This will create the standard *.wpt file needed.

Not sure about the issues you raise in points 3 and 4 - more info required. Track files should load fine. If they dont, sounds like you may not have created them in the first place (i.e some settings wrong..or you are just saving one section and not the rest).

Cheers
Greg
