Has anyone fitted a Codan to a 2008 Diesel Prado with a D4D engine? I'm having trouble isolating the interference from the computer in the engine. If you have solved the problem, how did you do it?

Wendy,
Do not have a Prado but had to work on getting the interference down in our 100 series. The main problem seems to come from the electronic injection. These are the things I did to reduce the noise, but never got rid of it totally. This does not worry me much as we rarely use the NGT when moving.

1. Avoid running the radio cabling along side the existing cables where possible.
2. Make sure the main unit earth is good.
3. Separate the power cables from the aerial cables even if only by a few cm.
4. Get some ferrite rings from somwhere like Jaycar and place them over both the positive and negative power cables close to the main unit. This will reduce the high frequency spikes generated when the injectors are triggered.

If you don't have success go to one of the mobile communications places - the ones that fit 2 way radios to courier vans etc. They deal with this all the time.

cheers

Thanks Alastair. I had a feeling that improving the earth from body to 'chassis' would help but I'll give the ferrite rings a try. We have a local Jaycar - they may be able to help

Hi Wendy,

Noise suppression is a black art. Noise in electronic diesels mainly is generated by the coils operating the injectors. Clock noises in the ecu also contributes.

You could try looking at Threads 48034 and 53749, they may be of help.

Try the ususual things like antenna mounted at the back, and as suggested by others ferrites on power and data leads.

If you are a member of VKS 737 you could send them an Email and ask if they have any articles that may help.

Good Luck with this one

Cheers

Another one that interferes with the HF is my 80 litre Waeco fridge, running the auto tune antenna cables past it. I have had to put in an on/off switch in the cockpit so I can use it whilst the motor is running.

We have had the same trouble with our NGT in our D4D Hilux it was so bad you could not hear anyone while the engine was running.

After all sorts of things I tried I was told that on the firewall under the bonnet on the passenger side there is a box with cooling fins on it with three plugs coming out of the bottom of the box.

I fitted those clip on noise ferrites from jaycar around the three wires and it has made a huge difference we can know log in while on the move.

I have a 2007 Hilux with the D4D engine and when I had a Codan NGT fitted the amount of interference was that bad I could not even use the radio. The installer very quickly isolated the problem to the electronic rust protection I had on the vehicle. As soon as the rust protection was disconnected the interference stopped. Solution to the problem was to fit an on/off switch to the rust protection, so when I need to use the radio I simply fllick the switch. With regards to engine interference there is none. Hope this helps.

Wendy.

Had the same problem with my LC100.
Google NES10-2 MK11. Available from a company in Sth Aust if I recall.
I install one and now the only real interference is the fridge. I installed a switch in the dash if I need to use the radio and the firdge is "on".
