Hi all, I have blown a H3 bulb in my stock GU IPF's so i will replace both bulbs. Is there anything better than the stock bulbs, maybe different colour spectrum or wattage (currently100 watt)...?? Or just replace with standard bulbs... Michael

Replace with a good quality standard bulb, e.g. Philips.

A claim of 'whiter' light just means less light (but it is whiter) and the +30 +40 bulbs etc are slightly brighter at the expense of glare (the filaments are shorter which affects the light pattern) and bulb life.

Nissan only fitted 100 watt standard bulbs when they supplied the IPF lights. IPF lights normally come with a 130 watt bulb. I get my replacements from ARB and they are packaged in IPF packaging. About $30 each

Hi Michael,

Have you thought about possibly replacing them with HID's? I'm looking at doing this with my IPF's when funds permit. Have a look on Patrol4x4.com forum, a guy there Matt (JET-6) sells his own brand (THUMPA) HID kits with slimline ballasts. The ballasts will actually fit inside the round 900 series IPFs.

Cheers,
Darren

Replaced the globes in the GU IPF's with 30 watt HID's 3 years ago, difference is "mind blowing".

Paid $80 for them off Ebay

Hi Stevo, sounds good. Three short questions..
Did you just replace the globes? Did you have to do anything else? And what brand of HID's did you get?

Appreciate your help
Cheers

Hi Alex, the globes require ballasts to start and run them.

Everything you require comes with the kits. Easy to installl (about an hour's work).

There are liiterally dozens of "brands" on Ebay (I suspect many of them come out of the same factory in China).

Do a search with the string "H3 HID kit".

A colour range of between 4000k & 6000k is recommended
