Hi Brenton

I live about 75 km from the Billiluna end of the CSR. Where abouts is this trip/gathering being held, just for information sake.

Cheers

Hi Dunworkin

I tried to click on the link, but for some reason none of the links are working for me, therefore I asked the question.

Cheers

Marc,

Details are as follows :

Leaving from Perth, an early after summer trip south to north up the CSR, followed by a quick trip to Wolfe Creek and then back tracking along the Tanami to Alice Springs, then returning to Perth via the Great Central Road. We expect to be away for about 5 weeks in total but happy for people to join us and depart the trek at any stages they choose. Happy to join up at Wiluna for those coming from the East. We expect to be in Wiluna on 3/4/11.

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev

Depending on how many people you have, and your time schedule, I guess that would put you in my area sometime between the 6/4/11 and 10/4/11. We will have some family in Kunawaritji looking out for travellers, then we will be able to work out when to shoot across the back track to the CSR.

We will probably be only able to sday Hi very briefly, but it would be nice to meet somne other people from EO. I will have my new Home Base HF radio installed by then, as I already haved an increased power UHF, just in case there are any stranded travellers (which has already happened for different reasons).

Please be aware that with the warmer waters off the coast at the moment, there could be a nasty cyclone season this year, with much greater rains. If people are interested in coming through Mulan (where I live) I would be happy to meet up on the CSR and show them through the back track, but then to get to Wolfe Creek it would mean going back through Balgo to Wolfe Creek (past Billiluna), then turning arounbd to head back to ALice Springs, which may add a day or so to the travels, probably inconvenient.

Weather dependent that could be a very slippery drive, but Lake Gregory after a good rain is a sight to see. I guess we'll see what happens, and whether anyone wishes to add the extra drive to their itinary.

Cheers

Kev,

Are you guys actually coming over to do the canning? Give me a ring cause we are thinking about doing it next year, but had no one to go with, so it'll be great to catch up and travel with you guys.

Hi Adrienne

A really good move to look for others to travel with, specially on the CSR. The Elders could be wrong, though I very much doubt it, and it seems there is going to be some rain in the area this wet, which is much needed.

Currently all maps will be wrong for the first 50 km's behind Billiluna, as the road has been extensively changed. Two reasons, there were too many deep and damaging washouts, and the road had to be dramatically improved, as the entire Lake Gregory and Lake Stretch area has just been mustered, and road trains had to be brought in to take the cattle out.

The major changes are from Well 51 through to Billiluna, and there has been substantial changes. The road had become almost perilous, fortunately no fatalities, but several vehicles have been damaged. My wife and I have been out five times now for vehicles suddenly having a heap of trouble, but nothing too serious yet.

I have not been here as a member very long, but from what I have had the priivilege of reading, for the most part the members are seasoned travellers and would be more than worth linking up with to enjoy the CSR.

Safe and happy travels.

Cheers

Hi All,
Just to clarify a couple of things, I am limiting the vehicle numbers to 4 in total, I expect to take about 20 days for the CSR section but that will depend on conditions and wet weather etc. Please be prepared for wet and/or hot weather and tonnes of flies. We have done some of the CSR before and a moderate amount of outback travel prior. A detailed itinerary as a guide will be available shortly.

I only wish to travel with experienced outback travellers, although a well prepared lesser experienced person/vehicle with a thorough set-up is ok. I have not decided re camper trailers yet, as if things are wet this might be a challenge particularly at the south end. I'll post an update in the next week or so on that one.

Remember, this is one of the most isolated places on the planet and thorough preparation is paramount...

My wife Sue and I are looking forward to meeting all of you who come along with us.. It should be fun..

Brenton

Hi Brenton.

It would be useful to prospective members to actually put those cautions on your gatherings page itself.

Cheers.
