I wanted to find out if anyone had travelled Australia with a 4WD campervan eg Volkswagen T3 or similar. I'm looking at
buying a 4wd campervan and small camper trailer to do a lap (2 adults and 2 teen kids). 2 sleeping in the van and 2 in the camper. Wondered about the pros and cons with this type of set up.
We want to go to
Cape york and do
Gibb river road. I've seen footage of T3's doing
Cape york but don't know anyone who's done this. Though we could leave the camper in
cooktown or
cairns then just stay in the Campervan and a tent for the rest. I like the ideaof having a base
camp the rest of the time (hence the campertrailer) and convenience of the campervan for day trips.
l'd love to hear from anyone about their experiences.

We have a pop-top Troopy camper. Love it. The only downside for lengthy trips is the lack of room inside when it is cold/wet outside.
We are thinking of a basic camper trailer or tent to give us more room when we eventually do the lap.

Thanks Stevesub. We thought that, hence getting the camper-looking at a Goldstream Crown as we can use the bed as a day bed, it has a dinette and kitchen and weighs in app 1 tonne so light to tow.
