Next year I will be towing my van around Oz. I am looking at purchasing a Thule Pacific 200 pod which has claws which grip on to to the roof rack to hold it down.
The box is rated to hold 50 kg. We will only be using it for light gear, e.g. pillows, tent, etc.
How strong are the pods? Will it last for a trip around Oz? (mainly bitumen road). We will be doing the
Gibb River Road (not towing the van).

Being plastic it won't take too kindly to corrugated roads for an extended period; it will probably crack. Should be fine for everywhere else you're going.
PS Repco sell Rola ones which are probably cheaper

We have a Polar 200 and it's survived plenty of outback travel.
Innamincka,
Coongie Lake, Mungo,
Wanaaring.
Make sure you get some cam buckles and tie down everything inside (there are hoops already fixed to the base) to stop your gear sliding around.
Hasn't leaked either - dust or
water............
