I cant find any "good" reports on air mattress's, all seem to point to them not lasting very long at all.........
I hate the foam ones, i love a good air mattrees but i also dont seem to get any life out of them, i would have a good spring mattress but they take up far to much room, the good,
well excellent thing with an air mattress is it packs up nice and tight and uses far less room and with 3 kids we need two so we need a solution...
Anyone out there know of good,
well the BEST quality air mattress that we can buy, i dont care how much they cost (
well less than a smallcar anyway) as we need the room ....

Thermarest brand is the standard you're looking for.
Outstanding but a bit pricey comparatively spking.
Cheers.

2nd that. I've had the same Thermarest for 13 years and it's still going strong. It cost the same then (1997) as it did now which is ironic. It's travelled the world and gets thrown in the back of the 4x4 every trip. Great quality.
Cheers Mick

Joe/Mel if I read your question properly you're not looking for self inflating mattress's, but mechanically inflated mattress'. I've had one that you have to inflate either by
hand pump, electric pump or mouth for years. No idea what brand it is as I've had it for so long and any branding has been worn off years ago.
But; it is red on one side and blue on the other, rubber not plastic and has a cotton face (looks like canvas) and still looks brand new. The beauty of this one is that it literally folds up flat as a sheet. It is stored in a calico shopping bag and takes up no room in the vehicle. I use this on long trips as, like you, space is at a premium in my vehicle.
Shorter trips I have a 65mm thick self inflating mattress, which is soooooooo good that folds up to about 75% of the diameter of a swag.

I've got a couple of the blue & red air mattresses too...they must be at least 20 years old although have had very little use over the last 8-10 years since going over to a self inflating Therma rest which you just can't beat for comfort and they are much warmer than an air mattress. I'm pretty sure i got my old air mattresses from Clarke Rubber in
Melbourne....don't know if they still make them, but they were very strong and reasonably comfortable
