I have camera EOS 400 canon. I was downloading photos as usual, the last few I couldn't open because I don't have photo gallery program on my PC (first time I came across this, never had probs before). Did anyone else have this problem. Which photo gallery is the best to download/easiest to use.
many thanks
Robert

Ive been using Picasa (a Google program) for a long time now.
picasa link
Its easy to use, easy to label, geotag, share, upload to web album and contains some editing software. Its also free.

Irfanview is a good easy one.
Photoshop if you are technically minded.
Windows office picture viewer should work.
Depends which operating system you are using
Im on Windoze 7

Hi Robert
I download photos using windows explorer (my computer or whatever you may call it) just treating the camera as an other drive.
From there, i usually open in MS Picture Manager. In my version i can do various edits, crop and resize, as
well as scroll through the pictures as i go. Other versions of MSPM do not seem to have the scroll function. I have downloaded the free Windows picture and fax viewer on those computers to scroll through pictures.
I also have a variety of photo programmes which i rarely use. MS paint is also useful for getting rid of a few faults.

Robert,
I would be very wary of downloading off a cannon using explorer. I have found (having 2 cannon cameras) that explorer has problems connecting directly with cannon cameras. In a nutshell it fails and doesn't want to talk to it from that moment on, even if you load the cannon software, until you reload windows.
So my advice is to load the software BEFORE you try to download.
All the best.

We do what MH does, but remove the card from the camera and put it into a USB thumbdrive/card reader. By using a consistent format for file names including putting the date first we can easily find files. If time permits (seldom does) we use Picassa for further indexing.
For basic editing we use XNView (download free). It does a good job of things like rotating, cropping, resizing and adjusting contrast, brightness etc.
Cheers,
Val

Hi Rob and Robert
We had no success at downloading through the software provided, despite trying and spending hours reading the book. Canon camera is EOS 7D. Putting the card into the card reader did something nasty to the computer (i forgot what that was), so now i just download as i do from other cameras through Windows Explorer. However, I have not tried to use the Canon software since, but probably won't want to anyway.

Another vote for Picasa. Free, fast and absolutely fabulous. A lot of professional photographers I know use it's features for cataloguing etc and use Photoshop or Aperture for the grading, touch ups and working with .RAW images.
