I was talking to a truckie the other day who was complaining about louts throwing rocks at vehicles during the night. If this is the case, be careful.
Cheers

Seems to be a widespread problem nowadays bluefly.
I drive a bus, and in the last month one of our coaches had a huge glass side panel smashed near Warnervale on the Central Coast, NSW, and last weekend, one got rocked on the Wyee railway overbridge south of
Newcastle.
Only a matter of time before there is another tradgedy.

Bloke in
Adelaide got pretty cut up and suffered brain damage as a result of some low life throwing a rock at his car which caused him to have a crash.
String 'em up by the short and curlies if caught I say.

It's important to note that the other replies to this thread suggest that this is not a "Wilcannia" problem.
There is a great tendency to highlight what is wrong with many of these small country centres. Rightly or wrongly they get a bad name that is damaging to the town and almost impossible to shake.
My next door neighbour when I lived in
Broken Hill was a Police Sergeant at
Wilcannia. He knew more about the seedy side of
Wilcannia than anyone I have ever met. Yes the town has problems but they are not as bad as the rumour mill would have everyone believe.
I have had some very pleasant times in
Wilcannia.

Duncs, a good mate of
mine who has gone to God, (too soon BTW) was the Senior Constable out there in the early 70's and he absolutely loved the joint and the people. I have never had a problem there in the many times I have visited. When you pull in with your rig, all those kids that gather are just curious and want to communicate and look and sometimes touch.....they're not automatically thieves...take the opportunity to talk with them.
Fred.

definitly not a wilcania problem ive had rocks thrown at my vehicle in Kalgoorlie as
well as directly at me and beer bottles, chairs and tables
from my experience its not so much as a certain towns problem but a particular demographic of society

Duncs
Your right, once a reputation is lost, it’s incredibly hard to regain.
I placed the warning on here to advise travellers, and have no reason to question the truckies motives or his creadability.
Cheers

Wilcannia on and off for over 20 years that I know of.
