Hi all
Well it has happen. I have blow en out the rings in number 2 on my HTZ motor 4.2 with a New Denso Turbo fitted 6 months ago, which had done 350000 kays when Turbo Fitted.
Well I was advised this could happen on a old motor,as I tow a van I need more power as on hills I was to slow on the black stuff. So I took the punt & lost
Well I broke down 170 kays from
Melbourne,so I lipped in to
Melbourne to a very good friends Work
Shop
He has done a lot of searching on what I should do ,as on the pension a big sum of money is about to leave my bank.
We have come up with the decision to do up my motor ,as long & short motors are to dear for me Up to $12000 for a complete Motor .
The question is has any one any advise or information on anything I should change ,as I have been advise this could happen again ,on what anyone has done to to fix this problem ,I would love to fit a 1HD -T Engine But I believe this out of my bank balance reach.
I also add I leave on the Sunshine Coast Queensland ,I have returned Home in a hire car with my dog supplied by RACQ on my Ultra Care road service for free except petrol,& will return to
Melbourne when Truck is fixed as I left caravan with truck in
Melbourne

Rotten luck mate! I can't answer your question, but I suggest you have a look at the Landcruiser
Forum?

Also maybe have a chat with a reputable 4WD mechanic, I can highly recommend Sean at South East Queensland 4X4, what he doesn't know about diesel 4by's isn't worth knowing. He might be able to give you some advice.
Good luck mate,
Cheers
Brian

Personaly as an X mechanic, Rebuild the motor & forget the turbo. Any engine not originaly designed for a turbo is a risk. Daryl

If you want extra power from the 1hz do what I did and fit extractors, 3" exhaust and a thru flo muffler and be amazed at the improvement

You could do as I did a few years back and contact somebody who import's 1/4 cut cruisers, ex japan and sell's the engine as a complete unit.
When I purchased
mine it had 88.5 K on clock ,bolted almost straight in and gave me a trouble free 165 K until I traded up to current vehicle.
Cheers

I purchased a complete written off vehicle with 1HDT engine. As I needed more power for towing
I still have the old 1HZ which I removed from my vehicle. I used it in May this year on a 8000km trip to the outback and it only used 1 and 1/2 liters of oil.

I would also be looking at up grading your gear box. Your box was also not designed to take the extra power from a turbo

as far as I know on the 80 all the 5 speeds are the same, petrol, turbo and 1HZ. On the 105 though the 1HZ box is the lighter model I think.

Maybe it would also pay to wind down the boost a few pounds too, my grenade is limited to 16psi.

CLC50, The km's on it should not really have made that much difference as long as the engine was in good condition. Did you have a boost and EGT gauge fitted? were reconditioned injectors fitted at the same time as the turbo? was it dyno'd? As long as you keep the boost to a max of 8psi and not let the EGT get to high there is no reason to have blown a piston.
Chris.

Mate, did you put a intercooler on your vehicle???
If you didn't and was running 6 pounds of boost after time it will go bang, or at least increase the chance of motor going bang.
Everyone i spoke to about turboing
mine said to put an intercooler on, keeps the temps down and increases longevity.
good luck with the vehicle.
i use to live on sunny coast

Hi Guys
Will thank you all ,for all your great advise,
Looking at all the information I have received I have not had my turbo Fitted as I should of .
I should of spent the extra to monitor my Motor (gauges + inter cooler )
I did have the pump serviced, injectors checked ,compression check & was fitted by one of the coast top diesel guys he also advise me I need checking gauges as funds where short I put them on hold (wrong as I now Know )
I did add a 3inch exhaust system
So back to the drawing board & weight up my options.

G'day, I have recently rebuilt a 1HZ motor after a similar problem, when your mechanic puts it back together - there are 5 different head gasket thicknesses, make sure he uses the one with the lowest compression, your turbo should be OK then at a sensible rev. range. good luck,
dingo
