Can a LSD be put on the front of a GU Patrol?

No.
But i used an old MK LSD in my old GQ, but had to machine the PCD of the crown wheel bolt holes out further so it fitted.
The inner splines were the same in the mq-mk rear as the front of the GQ, which should be the same in the 4.2 front gu diffs.
It worked excellent and cost me nothing, as i did it all myself, and was very proud, as was then the only one around!

I used a pathfinder rear and bolted straight in to the GQ ring gear- no machining. The only thing u have to do is remove the centre block.
