Catt,

Cant help you with your request, but I am sure others here can.

In the mean time, I am not sure if you are aware of etiquette on the net, but the number one rule is:

Never type a group of words or a phrase in upper case. Other people will get the feeling that you are being a bit rude.

Around Forbes is great. Out along the Lachlan river around Bedgerebong and Bumbuggan Creek is all accessible, also good spots between Forbes and Cowra.

Also Wyangala and Carcoar Dams offer good camping spots and the dams are 40% full at the moment.

To Notso
Thank you for your reply.
Went for a drive today to Lake St Clair, it was so noisy with speed boats and jet ski's think i'll stick to bush camping on a river. Has the Lachlan River or any of the spots between Forbes and Cowra got a path or track a 4 year old can ride a pushy?

There are a lot of tracks but probably not so hot for a 4 year old. The other thing, you'll get the odd trail bike rider buzzing around as well so mightn't be too great for a littley on a bike.

Hi Catt,
The Lachlan about 10kms out of Lake Cargelligo on the Condobolin Rd. There's a turn-off to the left (can't think of the name) but there's an arrow on the RHS of the road pointing to it. There are lots of great spots along the river. It's looking beautiful right now.

Probably Lake Cargelligo Weir. Or Chanters reserve is a bit further up the river.

That is a great spot too. Last time I was out at the weir they had the area half blocked off as they are constructing a Fish ladder and Carp Trap.

Chanters, that's it. Thanks, Notso.
There's a lovely spot if you follow the road but don't turn left over the weir but go straight ahead. Private, close to river and lots of coolibah trees.

Hi there catt, we spotted a nice spot on the Macquarie river year before last whilst having a bit of a drive about when we were staying in a van park at Wellington. I think it was run by the National Park mob.
You turn off to your left off the highway probably about 5 Ks or so out of Wellington as you head towards Dubbo. There was a lot of easy access to the River & all were clean & grassy. We didn't spot any toots etc, so you would need to be self sufficient in this regard. Good luck & enjoy your stay where ever you settle on.

Hi Catt,

WE have been to a lovely little Nature Reserve on a tributary of the Macquarie River a bit north of Wellington. Cant recall if there were any facilities but the river had nice pools and rapids. Turn off is to the west about 7km north of Wellington at 3 Mile Flat. You drive in maybe 5km (and go through a couple of gates) to near Ponto Hill. Its in Camps Aust so gets a bit of use so cant say how it would be at Xmas. Its certainly close enough to Dubbo for a day trip to the Zoo.

Another option is Goulburn river NP eat of Gulgong where there is quite a big campground with good pit toilets. The drive in is a bit more challenging though not difficult and after this years rain there should be plenty of water in the river. Again, no idea how it would be at Christmas.

In either case you would need to keep an ear to the radio if there was any chance of fires and be prepared to get out if there was any danger.

Cheers,

Val.
