just got back from spending some time up at Cooper Creek. We camped just up from the Ferry. Kayaked up stream one day for about 15km's (and the water just kept going on for ever) and then paddled the lake the next day and actually kayaked right up to the edge of the Birdsville Track!!

did the loop back via Roxby Downs to see the sturt desert peas also.

If you get the chance I highly recommened getting up/down there.

Hi Gossy
Great to hear you had a great time. If time was not a problem, you could have kayaked for days and still not got to the end. How were the Sturt Desert Pea looking when you were at Roxby.

Cheers

sounds great. Hope to be up there next week on our way to Darwin. What are the roads like at the moment. We will have 2 Land Rover D3's with Cooper STTs', and yes we will have recovery gear.

roads are great.Birdsville track is like a freeway these days (unless it gets wet!!). Very green but the track has dried up to it's typical dusty self.

Hi Gossy,

Great to hear you had a great trip.

Just wondering where's the best spot to see the wildflowers - are they all along the Borefield Road, or in patches? Any tips would be appreciated.

Was there any indication how long the ferry will continue to run? Last i heard it was 6 weeks, and that was 2 weeks ago.

cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick
The most unreal display of colour Sturt Desert Pea are all within a few kilometres of Roxby Downs. We were up there 2 weeks ago, so if you want to see what colours are on offer, have a look at my blog about our weekend up there.

Have a great trip.

Cheers

Stephen

there is a loop road which goes around the back of Roxby downs. It starts at the Andamooka turnoff and comes out at Lavericks servo (or close enough to it). They are on that road on the RHS as you head towards the mine site.

When we were there a couple of weeks ago, we found white ones 5 k's north of the town.
Go toward the mine and just as you come to the "Sleepy Drivers Die" sign, look to the west and there is a track going in. They are only a hundred yards from the bitumen. Stacks of red ones everywhere around the town outskirts and apparently on the Andamooka Road.
