Noob setup help for 93 Rodeo 2.8 TD

HI Guys
New here, posted a couple of times. I am a 2 wheeled adventurer, my commiserations to those stuck at the
Birdsville races this year. We were out there in a party of 5 bikes and 2 of us got stuck at
Innamincka one day too long and ended up 60Ks south of the developmental rd on Cordillo on the Friday arvo!! We managed to get my bike out but my mates is still out there just north of Providence!.
Anyway, Due to the unreliable bunch I hang with not brining a support 4WD, I have gone out and bought a Rodeo Cab Chassis. Its a '93 2.8 Turbo Diesel with dual batteries and 60L
water tank under the tray. Has a
snorkel and diff breathers fitted and has 250k on the clock. Has been looked after so I hope it will be a good reliable little worker.
I would appreciate if I could tap into the font of wisdom here and get any (constructive) input regarding things I should do, undo, replace, repair. modify, add or in any other way consider to make her a reliable outback sup[port vehicle. I am an experienced outback traveller but just on 2
wheels so I have a basic understanding of the 4WD aspect from those we meet and my thanks go out to all and any of you who we have met and been helped by. In short I know what's important (and what's not) out there, just need some 4WD help.

nice looking car and already
well set up, other than some decent lights and perhaps some "work" lights on the roof maybe it is a "blank canvas" ....
You seem to have a good knowlage of what is already required and as far as the car goes just get it fully serviced, all oils changed and maybe invest in oil sample tests as
well and then start going bush on short trips and you pretty quickly find out what needs to be done...

Lights are on the list. Yeah I thought that getting out there and seeing where it will go and what it would need to keep going if it stops is the way. Pretty much the same for the bikes. Just keep replacing and modifying within the budget and see where that ends up.

I don't know if it is relevant or not, but whenever I get a new veicle, I take the shockies and steering stabiliser out and whack some decent ones in, like Old Man Emus, which I have on my Hilux. I also changed the rear springs and chucked some Rockcrawler 400 kg springs on.
Recently I have purchsed (from an EO member) a Tyredog tyre pressure management system, and that has already saved me some grief.

Forgot to mention that the shocks ahve just been done recently. Not top shelf but good enough for a starting point. Monroe gear so it's not wing wong cha from china.
Steering stabiliser I have not looked into. That's now on the list thanks.
The rear springs are also on my list as they are supposed to be prone to sagging on the Rodeo. This ute has not done a lot of heavy hauling in the tray and may have had an upgrade as it did pull a van for a while. On the list :-)

Take a look at the rubber boots on the cv's They have been known to go.

Great little rigs, but definately....
get the CVs boots done but check the CVs before hand
Replace the powersteer high pressure hose before it blows (not dealer, Hosedoctor, Hydralink etc $100 compared to $800)
Parkbrake cables rust in the dip before the
wheels if the cable boots are perished
If any slop in steering the relay box will need to be replaced ($65 ebay $450 dealer))
Check up and lower Ball joint boots
At 250k km the injectors will need doing
Get a decent exhaust and then get the pump timing set and pump tuned on dyno to match new exhaust and correct timing. (will feel like new truck!!)
(no steering stabiliser on the Rodeo)
Great vehicles and if looked after will give years more reliable experience!

Got a complete service history with it. All the receipts since the second owner bought it at 120K. Funny thing is that ALL the things you guys are pointing me to have been done so your all on the money.
Has had
Suspension bushes done when shock were replaced at 220k, CV boots done and the OK given to the CV's themselves
The Injectors have been done and the pump rebuilt ($1800) receipts. That was a biggy.
The HP hose for the Power Steering , also done.
The
parking break does have a lot of slack so I'll be under there checking that on the weekend, cheers

Check the clutch slave cyl for leaks, Just peel the rubber boot back and if its wet replace it. Carry a spare one if your traveling.
As said before the cv boots split regularly and the steering idler arm wear out.
Also rear spring hanger bushes will wear quickly if your doing alot of rough work with a full or partial load.
Keep an eye on the
water pump. If it looks like its leaking replace it, They don't like to get hot even mildly.

Will have a look at the receipts for the clutch slave leak, jump under there and have a look while I'm checking the
Parking Brake issue Matt (1) mentioned above.
Thanks to you all for the advice, I am feeling pretty good about the little rig now.
Had a look around ebay for what parts were listed on there. They don't seem to expensive. Compared to bikes anyway. They really bend us over for prices on the two wheelers.
Adventure on Guys.
BTW. Our next excursion is going to be West via the French Line to Dalhousie, up to Alice and back East over the Plenty. Any jems of wisdom for that trek? Things to see, placed to divert to etc.
