Shocks

I looking at getting some shocks for my 80 series with 2 inch lift. We travel twice a year to the Qld/NSW country. What does everyone reccommend?
Thanks

About a year after I bought my 80 series I got Old Man Emu shocks and springs for a 2 inch lift. (ended up a four inch total lift as the stock springs had sagged that much!)

dropped it off to ome in the morning and when i picked it up that arvo it felt like a new car!

That was over 6 years ago and i am still happy with them. Good idea to get them to fit covers over the lower mounts of the rear shocks as the bolt heads are exposed to every rock etc that hits them and the original bolt heads were almost round.

Am sure there are lots of good brands out there though but for what i have fitted i am happy.
Cheers

Toughdog big bore adjustables. Fantastic performance and reasonably priced. Have tried a number of brands including OME and these have been the best by far. If you can afford Konig, go for them. If you're doing any rough stuff or towing over rough stuff, you'll be disappointed by the OME shocks. Avoid them.

Cheers Mick

Ditto the Koni shocks, had two sets on two different cars, both cars have not had it easy, and the shocks still work as good as new even though there isn't much paint left on them, we have found all sorts of broken shocks around the place over the years, OME would probably be the most common. Cheers, Kanga.

My new Koni 82 series shocks went OK on the CSR this year. Probably because I travelled so slow that they never warmed up. :) I did see blown shocks on other vehicles driven at insanely high speeds.

The Koni 88 and 90 suit raised height vehicles and are VERY expensive and will not fit my standard height cruiser. I read the 88 and 90 come into their own driving at competition type speeds and do not do much at normal driving speeds. The 82 series supposedly were better for that.

Final choice for me came down to Toughdog big bore, as recommended by Mick O, or the Koni 82s. I went for the Koni more to do with local supply factors than anything else.

Doing it again, taking into account the success of the Toughdogs on Mick's heavy rig, I would give Toughdogs a try because of their easier adjustment. The adjustment capability of Konis is really a one off at fitment time and that's it.

I really don't go much for the OME recommendations but that is my personal attitude.

If you can afford them, go for Bilstein.

Although, in my previous vehicle I had Ironman big bore foam cell & had no problems at all, including towing a camper trailer on the CSR & heaps of High Country etc.
