At Dealers anyway!, Either their giving high trade in prices, and theres skinny mark up on newies, But i thought the way things have been with the economy over the last 3yrs that the leisure market would have deteriated a tad, it seems to have had little effect on the major players!,When you see a thirty yr old tandem van for $16000??, thats had a lick and a promise, ( a rip off i know), But does make you wonder!.......I knew i sold my last van to cheap, GRRRR.

Cheers Axle.

Gday Axle,

Demand must be still very high, most van and camper trailer mobs are working flat out with 6 to 12 months wait... It does make you wonder why we are not seeing a van on the road every few minutes...

Funny situation Mike, They all get parked in the driveway, or storage yard!, until that few weeks break and then its off we go!!....LOL.

But of course theres the up side , local employment, and of course the government coffers have to be kept full with all the rego revenue!!!!, what a frigin joke in NSW!!!!

g'day Axle,
It's not only at the dealers, we bought an old jayco jaydove about 3 years ago and kept it and used it for 18 months, didn't spend a cent on it and sold it for the same money we payed for it in the blink of an eye.We then kept an eye on ebay and the trading post for an old pop top to buy, we noticed that prices would be up for a month or two then they would drop a little.we were lucky enough to pick up the old millard that we bought and at the moment the same type and quality van is selling for at least a couple of grand more. My father also bought a couple of old cheap vans to work on in his spare time and he has managed to make good money on both vans after doing them up, with plenty of interest as soon as they were advertised. So even the private market is going pretty well.
Cheers John

I think this is near the mark. Vans have always had good (low) depreciation but you try getting new van for the price you were quoted 12 months ago. They enjoy a healthy price hike every year.

I went to a dealer a few k's out of Traralgon on the Melbourne side who specialise in family vans. They told me they took 75 confimed orders at Sandown and there was now an 11 mth wait for a new one. eek.

We're planning on heading off in early/mid April next year, so it's second hand all the way for us.

There are still some good buys on the private market if you jump at them and can travel to view/collect.
