I know this is a very common problem with all Toyota live axle front ends, the dreaded leaking front axle oil seal. Ive had
mine replaced about 4 times in the last 6 years. I'm thinking of just leaving it and every now and then degrease it and top up the oil. Has anyone had the same problem (im sure there's a few of you out there) what did you do to fix the leak once and for all? Or are you just leaving it like i said i was going to?

It is a problem caused by a $2 seal and 3hrs labour to fix.
The trouble with just letting the oil weep out from is that it will also break down the grease in the CV and bearings and the can be very expensive to repair.
The fact that you have had the seal replaced 4 times in 6 years would mean either a bent axle or the seal has worn a grove in the axle, or unless you have replaced the seal yourself it has not been done or not fitted correctly.
I would pull it all apart again and check the axle and the seating of the seal.

Hi Long Hair,
Had a similar problem with my 80 series.
It turned out that it was caused by wear in the swivel hub bearings. Any movement impacted on the inner axle seal and the brass bush that supports the axle. Fitted a Terrain Tamer swivel hub kit which included a new upgraded inner seal as
well as a bearing to replace the old brass bush. No more leaks.
hope this helps

This is often the culprit, and overlooked.
Also use a genuine toyota seal for the axle, as they have a better lip design, and rubber than many non gen seals.
If the bearings have been done before, my money is on the brass bush inside the stub axle housing, easily pressed out and in.
Also if its just grease smearing past, thats fine, and normal, if its oil coming out, and you have had this done before, my money is on the bush.
Cheers

Thanks to all your replies., All the parts Ive used were genuine Toyota parts and every single item in the swivel hub assembly has been changed. Toyota has done the repairs 3 times under warranty and i did the last one, took me a whole day to do one side. Never again. I'll ring around some 4wd repairers and see if someone will take the time to inspect all parts and find the problem. The Ute has done just on 400,000 so maybe something has worn causing it to leak.
Thanks again.

It will be one of 2 things-worn bush as mentioned already or at some stage someone as got the swivel hub shims mixed up and now the axle is not centred in the hub. Very difficult to set up again, requires a special Toyota tool I think.
Dead give away is when you remove the old seal (carefully) it will be worn on one side noticably
