Been there twice and love the place.

The first time we camped just off the beach -

The second time, earlier this year, we stayed at Eddiie's camp -

You can call Eddie Deemal directly on (07) 4060 9223 (best after 7pm) and find out the road conditions.

The main obstacle for towing a van would be the last hill down onto the beach/camp site area as it can get quite rutted -

Hope this helps,

Scott

Hey there,

We were at Eddy's place about 3 weeks ago. It is like a highway out too there now, a good gravel road all the way from Hopevale to the campground. You would have no trouble at all with the van. The last hill down to the beach is no longer an obstacle, it is now gravel. The road did get a bit slippery in a few places straight after a heavy downpour, nothing to worry about though.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Paul.

Just curious ,what is the fishing like out at elim beach, any creeks you can get to by sea in a small tinny, fished bathurst bay , bathurst headland, always good to go somewhere differant, also would it be more accesable early in the year then the above places, thanking you Friar.

If the wind is blowing anymore than about 15 knots from any direction your pretty well buggered. There is a couple of small creeks up and down the coast that fish well, as well as Cape Bedford. Also there are reef patches and a old wreck that are real handy. All these spots are dependent on weather/wind. You can certainly have fun out of the wind on the sandflats chasing some good size trevally in most weather conditions. There are plenty of muddies to chase up towards Cape Bedford. Access would be alot easier earlier in the year, road conditions would be alot friendlier.

if you ask really nice Eddy might take you out mud crabbing with spears. He was going to take us out but we had to bail and go back to Cook town for repairs. He showed us some spears he was making for the Adelaide museum. Very interesting guy to talk to.
