Limp annex

We have camped for many years in tents and always used the thin ropes with the plastic adjuster thingys (I'm not good with names). Recently we purchased a new camper trailer. The ropes for the annex have an attachment on the end, which has a wooden block with a metal coil, that the rope somehow (I'm assuming here) wraps around.

We can not for the life of us work out how to get the ropes taught... which leaves our annex looking very sad and limp. And limp just doesn't work for me. I'm sure there is a trick to them or a certain way in which they are supposed to be used, that we clearly aren't doing and were never shown. I know this may seem like a really dumb quuestion to all the seasoned camper trailer folk out there, but we really just can't seem to work it out.

Ah-ha! Bill, thank you. I knew it was going to be something really simple and logical... just like the plastic thingys really.

Thanks again

Hi Mickie,
I am assuming the rope passes through a hole in the wooden block then to the coil and back through the block and an end knot .
If I am correct The spring (coil ) is to absorb shocks etc from wind.
Slide the block approx half way along the the length of the rope so you have a double rope one end and a single the other. the knot is still at the wooden block. The spring is at the end of the rope loop the free end of the spring is attached to a stake in the ground. Tighten the rope by sliding the wooden block up the rope till the rope is tight and the spring is under tension then release the block. the block will self lock on the rope.
Ian

Hope this helps.

They are putting it into tea bags now .. so that if you dunk, it will stop your biscuits from going limp.

Some 40 odd years ago, when I was in the Army, they allegedly put stuff in the tea to prevent a particular kind of tautness . I've recently noticed that it's just started to work !! Cheers.

Sadly the forum has become a bit like that. It used to have a lot of great banter.

Agree Royce, these days when you come onto the forum its a bit like walking into a Monastery.

Miss the days of funny, interesting and sometimes heated debates had on O/T subjects.
And of course, some of the now forgotten names that were involved.
Gave the forum a bit of life.

Sign of the times I suppose.

Cheers.....Lionel.

ps: have you ever noticed moderated posts continue to have a huge number of hits even though there is nothing to read.
Tells me something !!!
