Engel lid hinges

I've got a newish 40L Engel. The lid hinges at one end, and unlike the old ones with the hinges attached by screws these seem to be integral with the lid. Is there an easy way to change the lid to side hinging (with new hinges and latch) without cutting off the old hinges as I am reluctant to mange my fridge in this way. The reason I ask is to get it fully open without it hitting the roof.
Any suggestions welcome. Cheers, Alex.

Hi Alex,

We too have the new Engel. You will find that by partly opening the lid and pushing it sideways, the hinges slide apart, allowing the lid to be removed in a couple of seconds. This now exposes the screws to the hinges, which should make relocating them relatively simple. Cheers, Tim.

Alex, we also own a new 40l engel and it took a while to realise that the lid was removable in this way. I thought that the hinges were twisted as the lid had slipped sideways by about an inch and it didnt sit right on the opening. Not sure if this solves your problem of hitting the roof though. Ross
