Plenty of rain here in the geograghical centre of Qld over the last few days ,so dirt roads are officially closed , even some of the sealed roads are shut for a bit untill the levels drop , thing is was having a bit of a look at other states and rivers , supposed to be a warning for the Murray at Albury , Looking at levels further down stream

Hi Alloy, the reading of 89.21metres is the AHD or Australian Height Datum and is the level above sea level. I agree that it's almost useless. Far better to give the more common reading of say 3m in relation to whether it's a minor, moderate or major flood. Will go and check further... W

Looking at other
Murray river sites such as Torrumbarry Weir downstream of
Echuca the level is just under 6 m. Up at Albury it's 3.5 m. So the ball
park river depths are in the range of 3 to 5 m depending on the width and depth of the channel. The bottom line is that it's too deep to ford in your 4by!!,.... W

Using the AHD for the one level and not for the rest of the river levels is bunkum , want to know how deep the
water is to the bottom of the river , not how high the boat is above the level of the ocean.

Torrumbarry; May this year 0.8m with 2,500 megalitres/day. Today at nearly 6m and it's 25,000ML/day. In Sept flood it hit 7.5m with 47,000ML/day. So call 0.5 meters zero flow and it's 5.5m deep today.
Echuca in May dropped to 85.9m so say 85.5 is no flow, thus it's 3.7m deep today. Have a look at Crackles' pix in post 82454 for some fording fun... W
