Hi all,
Just wondering if anybody has some better direction than what I have been given,

Apparently somewhere south of Dongara there some old military bunkers, the directions I have been given don't make a lot of sense.
I was told that from Sandy cape you can take one of the tracks that head north and some where just before Dongara you will come across the bunkers. Only problem I have with these direction is just after Leeman the coast and the Indian Ocean drive meet so there is no track.
I am sure the bunker are there some where and am hoping someone can shed some light on how to get there.

Hi Andrew C,there are two concrete bunkers South of Sandy Cape, close together,1 open the other locked up.If you dont know Sandy Cape, turn off indian ocean drive just nth of Jurien, drive approx 7 kms,hit T track, turn Sth thru camping area as far as you can go,this is the only place 4wd allowed on beach.Follow track sth (about 1 km) to beach.Follow beach, with tyres deflated, until you can go no further, not far,you can see the rocky outcrop where you have to turn off.Find a track and head sth. There is also a plaque dedicated to a surfer taken by a shark. You will see the bunkers clearly.Hope these bunkers are the ones that you are chasing.BTW,wouldn't plan on camping at sandy cape over the w/end,theres a 30th b/day party there.Rgds Barry

It is south of Sandy Cape, used to be known as "North Head" in my younger days, used to be good fishing and big sharks too but I haven't been there for years.

The surfer was the late Bob Bartles, taken by a shark in the late 60's/early 70's.

Disco.

I sent one final shout after him to stick to the track, to which he replied “All right,” That was the last ever seen of Gibson - E Giles 23 April 1874

Actually I note that the Recreational Park in the area is called "Sandy Cape" - a cause for confusion (for me at least) given it is not a name used on any map for geographical features (where as Sandy Point is).

Cheers

Does anyone know the history of these?

My father was in the field artillery during WW2 and was stationed in the Geraldton area for some time. Would it have been where these bunkers are?
