Found this on another forum, anyone heard something about it?

For info anyone planning a tripthrough and wanting fuel. Apparently a local went all MrT on the bowsers and they are beyond repair. it will be a while before they are replaced.

There is a BP in the back streets, follow the signs, but he has limited hours.

The BP is not to far off the main road and runs fairly normal hours as most businesses do.. Michael

The fuel at the BP depot is a lot cheaper than the servo on the main drag, always something to keep in mind when passing through that town.

"when passing through that town."

thats probably the relevant recommendation to bear in mind.

Thats a bit unfair on the town. I bet there are plenty of good people living there and proud of the good aspects of their town.. as they should be.. Michael

Im certain you are correct-but your statement "I bet there are...." seems to imply that you are surmising at this rather than first hand knowledge.
Im assuming you have been there though. If you had stopped to seek out those people, Id expect you would have written that you KNOW good people who live there?

your handle "Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy & Wrath !!! Live Life!!!" seems also to promote a different set of values!

No I certainly didnt stop to look at the inner aspects of the town, only my first impressions.

Gee FishyO your reply is a bit rough! Yes I have stopped there many times for fuel at the BP as I have had a BP fuel card for 28 years and stop for takaway food in the town. I guess i should stay there just to make sure there are some good people there. Almost every major trip i do normally go through the town then out to Broken Hill and to wherever my planned trip is. It is a little unfair to put everyone in the same group, I have always found that there is good and bad in all !! And the signature is a bit of fun, i change it every few months, sometimes it gets a few smiles... Its far from the way i live my life.. :)

No problems whatsoever on our trips there, but it can look a bit daunting. Managed to negotiate my way through a large crowd outside the 'supermarket' and back again without a problem. No different to many other outback towns.

Good on you Gramps,Stop where ever you can a spend a few dollars, most of the outback towns depend on a little passing trade... Michael

The first time SWMBO & I passed through Wilcannia was 1973...

In the years between then and now, we have passed that way on numerous occasions, to the point that I have (literally) lost count ;-)

Each and every time, we have stopped, sometimes for no reason oyher than to get out of the car and have a walk around, incl. several occasions through the '80s when we had a young family in tow;-)

Our most recent visit was in May this year, when we spent the night in the c/van park there...

Not once in all that time have we ever felt the slightest bit uncomfortable about being there, and I expect we'll be stopping for a snack (or whatever) when next we pass that way..................
