My opinion is " Not Really"!, Toyota GLX 100s fabric seats, Rubbish, The floor carpet, Hardly call it hard wearing!!, Plenty of cheap plastic, vinyl bits that twist and warp!, Have a look at the outside bits and pieces that bolt on to most Jap work utes,( Wrong word stuck on) Hardly come into the cat, of a tough as nails ute?, un breakable they reckon LOl...LOL. If you want to carry good loads with any make or model, continuously over rough country, then a rebuild of key points is required. For the money we have to pay for a so called work Horse i think its a bit rude really; .... My Rant For The day..lol.
Cheers Axle.

Hi Axle
I have been in contact with a friend of
mine in Kalkaringi, and another nin
Halls Creek, and they had the same results as me. The majority of the breakdowsn on the Tanami, the Duncan and the Great Northern between
Halls Creek and
Fitzroy Crossing this traveller season were later model vehicles.
The 100 series GXL and later have that much alloy in their gearbox that they have a hrad time coping with serious 4wd'ing. I dropped the oil out of three diffs for people, and it came out almost milky after they had been through water, and we all know what that means.
There was also three cars with loose 'knuckles' (I am not sure of the proper name) on the front drive shafts, even though they were
well packed. I have to agree with you, give me a 75 series or 78 series anytime, and then just recondition it, so easy.
Cheers

100 seiries have a stronger gear box than the 79 which are a disposable item on a 79 and as for diffs, we went through 3 front ones on our work 79
75s are a good thing but getting long in the tooth now and were prone to snapping axle studs which i had happen many times

As far as Australia specific models go it is a
well known fact that the market here is miniscule in the scope of the world.
The Arab States are apparently where the market is aimed at as they seem to be the biggest buyers.
EG where is the new Patrol going first Yep thats right prev sentence.
So if we buy less of them we will fare worse not better.
May all be reduced to buying Landrovers Perish the thought
None of the OP's faults have shown up in my 100 ser so dont know what he does to his but am more than happy with it and will be sorry to sell it next year.
It will have less than 200,000 on it then
The dash hasnt split like a Patrol The motor hasnt blown up like a Patrol.
Chassis hasnt buckled like the so called 3t capacity utes.
Nothing has fallen off.
Worst thing to happen is L/H rear mudflap has warped cos I spilled diesel over it several times.
Havent even ever had a
puncture My fabric seats are still unmarked and not worn.
So dont know how you treat your vehicles but as said Look after it.

My new car is built for Australian conditions.
It has live axles and nice big coils at each end - a very strong drive train - tough axles and very strong low tech engine.
You can drag its chassis over nasty ground.
Doesn't tip over till almost 50 degrees , only has 33 psi pressure fuel rails, doesn't throw a wobbly at the thought of a bit of dirty fuel.
Has $9 spark plugs , not $1000 injectors - spares are easy to find , even the windscreen shape hasn't changed for 12 years.
It even does its fair share of consuming that natural resoucre, Petrol.
