I saw this in the "West Australian" newspaper's website today.

I thought I might bring it to the attention of EO Forumites:

Hullo Marc,

this is the text:

The West Australian and the Country Women’s Association of WA need your help to raise funds so families living in rural areas affected by the current dry conditions can have a fun and happy Christmas.

Beginning Saturday and ending on December 18, the Christmas for the Country Appeal will highlight the plight of rural communities experiencing one of the driest seasons on record.

While most of us in the city may be enjoying a nice break and sitting down to a big Christmas lunch, small rural business owners, farming families and rural residents will be feeling the effects of drought and the anxiety, stress and depression it often brings with it.

By donating to the appeal, we can ensure WA’s country cousins will not be forgotten this Christmas season. After all, Christmas just wouldn't be the same without the food produced on WA's farms.

Donations will be deposited into the CWA Sir James Mitchell Education Welfare Fund and distributed by the CWA.

Applications forms for community grants or individual assistance for households are on the CWA of WA website or can be accessed below.

It is envisioned that grants would be allocated for community events such as men’s sundowners, women’s lunches, presents for children or the chance for a farming family to take a break from the farm with a holiday.

Communities must lodge their applications by December 3 to receive grants for their Christmas event however applications can still be made after Christmas. The decision on which events receive grants will be decided by the CWA.

Around $40,000 has already been donated to the appeal from companies including WAFarmers, CBH, Bankwest, Wellards, Grain Link, Westpac, Pastoralists and Graziers Association and Australian Railroad Group.

Bank Transfer to CWA of WA
BSB: 066 130

Then email info@cwaofwa.asn.au or fax 9321 6024 for remittance advice.

OR pay by cheque or money order to : CWA of WA Po Box 97, West Perth, 6872.
