We're looking to buy a Spaceland tri-axle caravan, and wondering if any readers/caravanners have had any experience or seen many tri-axles on the road these days? the vans we're looking at are 29 and 32footers. Any feedback or info is welcomed. Thankyou.

Saw three at a
park in
Perth but they were REGAL models and were all of 32ft
Some
mine families were living in them ( Fly in fly out miners)
I was going to buy a 28ft Spaceland until someone said "What do you want to tow something that sizes around Australia for" It was 31ft long overall.
Pros Lots of room
Cons 6 tyres to get punctures
Tyres scuff severely when turning especially getting into sites in parks.
Limited amount of huge sites in parks ( We were turned away occasionally with a 25 footer)
Weight What are you planning to tow it with.
Side area We scuffed two rear tyres on tug in a strong side wind out of
Esperance attributable to van being pushed sideways in the wind.
Spoke to a guy at Ularu who had a 33ft triaxle and asked him what it was like to tow and in the wind. He said "Just like a block of flats"
Was towing it with a 100ser Cruiser Doh!!!!!!!!

Mate, I reckon if you want a van that big you should go for a fifth wheeler.
We see the odd one getting around. Nightmare to
park, Heavy to tow.

Hi Veejayh
I take it you are looking for something to live in with perhaps periodic moves, rather than to go touring with?

Greetings, I second Motherhen's comments. You will be doing a lot of phoning ahead to see which
park can take you and for how long. It will restrict you ease and choice of when and where to go, IF you are goig to be travelling much. Few
park have enough room for the competing extra long vans. OK if you live in a few spots for extended time. Very hard to
bush camp. Very hard to travel freely from place to place as the whim takes you.

I remember seeing many of them back in the 1960s and 70s but they seem to be a rare sight today except with travelling circus families. Those people usually tow them with trucks which makes for a massive size combination but they don't have any
parking problems which makes it a lot easier.
I knew some people with one years ago and they lived in it permanently. They did not own a tow car though. They only moved it once or twice a year and hired a tow truck.
If you do intend doing a lot of travelling with frequent moves then, as the others have already said, many caravan parks may not be suitable. One thing that I have noticed though in my travels around the country is many parks in small country towns often have a lot more land than they need. Fitting a 30 of so footer in should not be a problem although you may not always be able to connect it to all facilities.
A few phone calls ahead to see what is available may be advisable before you move each time.

Hi Splits
We had a 33ft tri axle back in early 70s and towed it with a short wheel based cruiser from
Perth to
Newman, stayed a couple of years then up to
Jabiru for another year then down to
Melbourne where we traded it in on a ski boat.
Couldn't get away with that tow vehicle today, but we never had a single problem, except when a road train going the other way caused my tinny to break away from my roof and land right way up on top of the van, wished I had a photo of that but was too cranky to think about, but I have a chuckle now when I think about it
Cheers Ray
