morning all

we have a 2005 gxl land cruiser with reversing sensors just wondering when reversing with a caravan on the constant beeping can become very frustrating is there anything that can be done to over come this issue. (turning off etc).
waiting with anticipation.

regards andrew.

Usually a box under the rear somewhere that a pair of sidecutters will fix.

Mine was a Govt vehicle and had a beeper on it Took about 30secs to stop that. Took longer to tape up the ends of the wires. LOL

You miss understood the initial Question, as did other respondents, it was a bit vague, thats why I beckoned you to have another look.

hi andy michell
the reversing beepers are there for safety reasons
and imho it would be downright stupidity to disconnect it in this day and age when there is a big focus on how dangerous 4wds are becoming and in the negative media eye should be banned from certain areas

reversing cameras and beepers are being fitted to save lives
i actually bought 2 beeper globes and put them in my rear lights so as to alert people when im reversing particulary in shopping center car parks

and ive found that pedestrians actually are responding to the beepers by not walking behind me when backing out and they are even more useful and required imho when reversing with a caravan behind your vehicle

if you happen to be unlucky and back into or over something or/body and it is found that the sensors wires have been cut or tampered with your insurance could be invalid when they were standard equiptment on models like yours
they were put on the vehicle for a very valid and sensible reason

so why not just get used to them
having to put up with the beeping is part of living in this modern techo world
cheers

Dont think they are standard Barry as thats the only one Ive heard of with sensors.
Mine had a beeper wired into the reverse lights.

Would be good to have a switch in the circuit though for backing the van as they are a pain in the butt especially as I had to reverse into my garage and neighbours used to crack the %^&&& when I took a bit long to do it.

Wouldnt be hard to do I may try it if I can find the beeper.

hi graham
an increasing number of accidents are actually happening in driveways
if you put a switch in line it may be a moderate convience at in some instances but
you then have another thing on the memory to do list and murphy's law says it will be off more than on
when its needed most

would your negative neighbours rather hear the screams of someone being runner over and squashed
i have a winging irish neighbour who complains about everything
yes everything
but the same bloke mows and wipper-snipps his lawn 3 times a week and usually does it when his neighbours are trying to hear the evening news etc there's nothing like pure ignorance
and his machines are the loudess
he also wears a hearing device which he obviously turns off/down while doing so
give your neighbours some ear plugs
you just cant win with some people lol
cheers

Yes I have neighbours on both sides now who are deaf but are OK

As I now live in an over 55 village not a lot of chance of running over kids LOL

Hi there Mazcan, would you care to elaborate on the "beeper globes" as I have not heard of them. Thanks

Put some Gaffa tape over them when you are towing and rip it off when you have finished. Job Done.

If you're talking about reversing beepers that beeop whenever you're in reverse then everyone's covered that.

If you're talking about reversing sensors that detect obstacles behind the vehicle that are detecting the vehicle, then you can get a switch in the circuit to switch them off when the caravan is attached.
If you happen to have a 7pin flat style trailer connection, you can get one with a switch that is operated by lifting the cover to plug the trailer plug in, and route the power for the reverse sensors through that.

hi lex m

you are correct they are factory fitted sensors that are in the rear bumper (four of) and attached the the rear view mirror in the cabin there are little lights that start green and change to red in bars the closer you get to an obstacle at rear, the beeper is an intermittent beep that gets faster the closer you get. can be quite annoying when reversing the van but is great and quite accurate for reversing into our shed.

thanks every one for you're reply's.

regards andy.

These are the ones I was referring to. Put some tape across them and they will not detect the van.

hi andy mitchell

sorry for giving incorrect imfo regarding your sensor problem

but if you had of given the details in your initial thread that you have just given in the recent thread

then we would have had much more explicit imfo on which to base our advice on
as sensors also have beepers in their system this techo world can be confusing

as has been said many times before and is still very relevant

if you give correct details in a request for imfo and help
you are much more likely to get relevant imfo to help solve your issue

this is a mistake that so many on here make when wanting help
we are not mind readers but are willing helpers
no offence taken by me
just explaining how to get the best results
cheers

Hi Andy,

I have a Ssangyong Rexton fitted with reversing sensors and tow bar. When the van is connected the sensors are isolated. The flat trailer socket on the car has an inbuilt switch which is operated by a magnet in the hinged cover. These sockets are available as a standard accessory from Narva as either a n/o or n/c contact. You would need to check the wiring of the GXL to see if it could be adapted.Narva flat sockest

Cheers
