Looking at doing a Cape trip next year with a few mates on motorbikes. Anyone have any advice on best
routes to take ?
At this stage we are looking at a group of about 6 bikes with 2 support utes. Looking to make it all the way to the top and back in around 2 weeks from
Cairns. Would like to be able to hit some harder tracks along the way to break up the corrugations.
Any infor would be appreciated.
Cheers

Done it twice and found it bloody boring i will never go on the bikes again. If you do go i would go up up around Wakooka and
Bathurst head onto silver plains and ask about doing
the beach run up to Port stewart you come back in near Moojeeba into Coan then pretty lame up to
Weipa Ring Bertiehaugh Station (Terri Irwin) and ask for permission to go through there land via
Stones crossing (dont hold your breath tho) when you come out your right at the start of otl track. Stay at Bramwell on the way back and ask Wendy or vince for permission and directions to head out to the coast (beware the crocs are huge out there and you wont see any one so be prepared Cheers Balko

Only done the standard roads up there and found it ,
well, less than a challenge shall we say - probably because we went in september which kept the bugs and
water levels down.
So when it came to a bike challenge we choose the Simpson run instead and this certainly was more interesting.
I got a Drz400 for the run and it pushed me to the limit , but the kids and friends on their motocross bikes lapped up the dune jumps and pure joy of the ride.
We planned stops at 8 10 12noon 2 and 4pm which usually allowed for an hours ride for the bike then they would stop at pre-designated waypoints (everyone had to have loaded gps and handheld UHF which they could at least hear while riding).
The support cars would catch up before each 2 hour interval - the bike riders would mostly be there , and the extra time allowed for re-fuel and odd repairs.
Another rule we had was a car would always be the last vehicle in the group and it had a trailer to pick up any broken bikes etc.

When I was on the cape there was one group doing it in 2WD Manx beach buggies (including the steep gunshot) and another group on ride-on-mowers.
