HI All,
Has just purchased a new 7 x 4 Camper Trailer and very new to camping so please excuse my possible stupid questions. The trailer comes with 2 Gas Bottles holders. I have a 3.0 KG bottle which is too big by about 50 ml and then tried a 4.0 KG with the same result.Does anyone know the "Standard Size" for Trailer Campers as I have heard that 4.5 KG Bottles are used but have been unable to buy from several local camping shops.Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Ring the place you bought the camper trailer from and ask them. If they haven't built the gas bottle holders properly take it back to them and make them adjust them.

Hi Frances, Thanks foir the reply. I did that already, supposed to be for 4.5 KG bottles but I can't find them locally. I live in Newcaslte and bought this from Brisbane.id not think it would have been an issue as it has turned out thus far.

Steve, it might be stating the obvious but have you tried opening up the adjusting screw as most holders can be slackened or tightened.

HI Rambler, I have tried that but the thread is too short. Have since got longer thread of 8 M Rod, cut and then welded the new thread on and this works to a fashion but the clamp will not close all the way and also the thread will rub against the bottle.I will put a strip of rubber around the bottle if I can't find the correct bottles. Thanks for the reply Rambler,
The search continues!

if a 4.5 kg bottle is the correct one, do you mean a 3 and 4kg is to small for the holder ????

As I confirmed again today with the manufacturer that they are having the same problem due to gas bottle external sizes are always changing, which I found odd but as previously said am new to camping so can't comment on this. The 3 and 4 KG bottles that I have are too big also. As for a 4.5 KG bottle, so far having trouble sourcing any locally but it is early days and they must be available somewhere,
Cheers

4.5 kg gas is available in both short squat bottles or a tall thinner bottle & it's the later I'd guess that will fit your holder. If using swap & go bottles where you get different sizes I'd replace the holder with one of the strap types which have more ajustment.

Hi Craig,
Excellent news. I assumed that was the case just thought it was odd that the thinner 4.5 KG bottles were as common as the shorter fatter ones. At least I know that they are available and will pursue to find them with a wider search. I don't suppose you have seen these bottles at any of or National Chain Camping stores?
Cheers Craig

Same trouble for me, Primus bottles (blue in colour) fitted mine - nice and snug, smaller diameter than most others (in the 4.5 kg) A bit expensive to start with but if they fit it's worth it! Just need to get them filled each time, not swapngo.

If you're talking about a thread not being long enough then I would presume that the manufacturer has just installed standard prefabricated gas bottle holders and welded them on to the trailer, ones made in china and purchased pretty cheap. If so I've got the same as so would most other lower-middle range camper trailers. so try a primus bottle and see how you go.

Hi D-Jack, Thanks for the reply. The bottles I bought in the first place were actually Primus. Did not think I had to measure them as I figured they were a standard size to fit my now not standard Gas Bottle holders. Will make a few calls tomorrow, Cheers
