gearbox and transfer case oils for a03 hilux turbo;one toyota dealer says use full synthetic;another says semi synthetic other mechanics say use standard gear oil as long as the weight is correct any ideas please barry

cant see any reason why it would need synth or semi synth, pretty sure its simular running gear to the cruisers of the same vintage so something like castrol vmx-m 75-80 should do it

Probably recommending synthetic to help the heavy shift problem particularly when cold.
I use Castrol VMX-M.

Hi Barry, i use and reconmend Penrite 80w oil. go into repco and ask the counter staff for correct typoe and they will provide you with the right grade for your venicle.
I use penrite in my old hilulx and she has a worn diff in it. I get her cracking up to 100 occasionally to clear out the cobwebs.
rebuilding front axle completely this weekend coming. can't wait 4.3 ratio diffs.

Barry,
Have a look on the plate under your bonnet and I think you'll have the R151F gearbox. That being the case, I think you'll find the Castrol VMX-M 75/85 will give the best shifting in your climate.
Transfer case is less critical - any of the recommended 75/90 oils or VMX-M will do.
