So we headed into Big River last weekend to visit a couple of old fishing spots and do a spot of 4wding.

Much to our dismay, we found the DSE has taken a Caterpillar in and dug 7 or 8 two meter holes into perfectly good, non degraded tracks that would have been accessible in high range 2wd otherwise.

Maybe a sign up at the track entrance might have helped..? What was once an easy 2wd trek into Second Creek track turned into a winch in winch out scenario.

What's their reasoning on this?

Enochs point is empty and over grown with blackberries. We saw one disco, a couple of trail bikes and every campsite we passed empty all weekend. Bit sad really.

Paddy.
I am confused by your post. I have had a house at Enoch Point for 40 years and have not heard of track no 2 unless you are thinking of short cut no 2 which is of Dray track spur. The big river road has never been better than it is now. As for blackberries, there was some panic clearing along the roads during the fires so this may have given the weeds a chance. Eric

Nah not shortcut 2, Second Creek track which runs from Dray Track through to 15 Mile Rd and passes through the Taponga River..

That was a nice track. I saw a platypus in the river there once.
